Notes
a. Note:   E. I HAVE SIMPLY COPIED FROM BOOK SOURCES WITHOUT GOING TO MANY PRIMARY SOURCES, YET COMPARED AND VERIFIED WITH SOURCES BELOW WHEN SOMETHING LOOKED UNRELIABLE. THERE IS SOME DISCREPANCY ABOUT THE NUMBER AND ORDER OF CHILDREN IN THIS FAMILY GROUP. I HAVE TAKEN THE CONSERVATIVE POSITION AND LISTED ONLY THOSE AGREED UPON BY SERIOUS BOOTEN RESEARCHERS.
The sources for the reconstruction of this family are the 1840, 50, 60, 70 Cabell County, Virginia census and 1850 and 60 Wayne County census. Asa's first two children were born in Kanawha County as Cabell County was not formed until 1809. The balance of his children were born in Cabell County. Other sources include marriage records from the Wayne County courthouse, West Va. and marriage records from Cabell County courthouse, West Va.. Also used were dates on cemetery stones, Wayne and Cabell Counties, correspondence with Mrs Maurice Maxwell, genealogist, Council Bluffs, Iowa, the Jesse Spurlock Bible, Tombstone inscriptions from French Bowen cemetery, Beech Fork, Wayne, W. Va., and genealogical data received from Amy Adkins in the early 1980's.
The birthdates and death dates were confirmed and agreed upon by numerous Booten researchers on http://worldconnect.rootsweb.ancestry.com, as well as in "William Booton (1712-1787 of Culpepper County, Virginia, and his Descendants" compiled by Diane Dieterle (1st edition-1996), BookCrafters PO Box 370, Chelsea, MI 48118.
Sadly, I was green when I first researched this family and did not itemize each bit of data from the several sources cited above.
