"Ohio, County Death Records, 1840-2001," database with images, FamilySearch(https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:F66K-SNL : accessed 30 August 2015), General Martin, 25 Jun 1869; citing Death, Aid Township, Lawrence, Ohio, United States, source ID v 1 p 16, County courthouses, Ohio; FHL microfilm 317,746. Name General Martin Event Type Death Event Date 25 Jun 1869 Event Place Aid Township, Lawrence, Ohio, United States Residence Place Aid Township Gender Male Age 26 Marital Status Single Race (Original) W Birth Year (Estimated) 1843 Birthplace Aid Twp. Prior to finding this document I had always based General's approximate birth year on the 1850 Lawrence township census cited below, which lists General as twelve years old (born 1838) but this might be a few years off. "United States Census, 1850," database with images, FamilySearch(https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MXQJ-H82 : accessed 30 August 2015), General Martin in household of William Martin, Lawrence, Lawrence, Ohio, United States; citing family 10, NARA microfilm publication M432 (Washington, D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, n.d.). While there is a discrepancy between the two records of five years for the birth year, the likelihood that there would have been more than one General Martin of the same age in Lawrence township, Lawrence County is slim. Given this, and the fact that his siblings ages on the 1850 census are also off by a few years (based on their Death Certificates- Serilda off by three years, Nancy J by two years,) I have concluded that both records- the Death Record and the 1850 census- are for the same individual The source for the middle initial of General is his July 1863 Draft Registration car. Many Public Member Family trees on Ancestry.com list General as General Washington Martin without any documentation for the 'General.' It is, however, a likely extension of 'W'.
Note: General Martin died single in Lawrence township as per his Lawrence Cou
