  Benjamin is first found on the 1850 and 1860 Lawrence County census living with other families due to the earlydeath of his parents (see notes under parents). On the 1850 census he is living with elder brother William and on the 1860 census with a family of Wilson's.

  Benjamin Bennet Martin is listed as single, not divorced or widowed on the 1900, 1910, and 1920 census records as well as on his Ohio State Death Certificate.
  On the 1900 census Benjamin has a boarder named Enis Wilson and is listed as Bennet Martin.   Benjamin Bennet Martin is living (under the name Bennet and listed as single, not widowed) with his cousin, Amanda Ross and her husband on the 1920 Lawrence County census.   The source for the death of Benjamin Martin is his Ohio State Death Certificate 34588 listing his parents James O Martin (incorrectly) and Elizabeth Earles. This is the source for his birth and death dates and his marital status as single.   The consistency of these document leads me to the conclusion that he never married.
  There is a marriage of a Benjamin Martin in Lawrence County to a Jerusha Ward. If the record is to be believed, his age is seven years off. No further record has been found as of 2018 for a Benjamin or Jerusha Martin after this 1873 marriage. Could this be an early marriage for Benjamin which ended in divorce, abandonement, or widowhood, and he decided to simply call himself 'single' for life? At present it is not possible to positively connect this tempting marriage of Benjamin and Jerusha to my Benjamin Bennet Martin.
