Note: o as an infant on the 1860 Lawrence County census. In life he was known, however, as Gerard Knapp.
On the subsequent census records of 1870 and 1880 Lydia is living away from Amos Moore (who died in 1889), with Gerard and her other Knapp children by a previous marriage to Charles W Knapp. On those subsequent census records Lydia has resumed her married surname of Knapp and given the same to Gerard Moore. After 1860 Gerard Moore was known in life as Gerard Knapp and nothing else. That name appears on all census records, his two marriage records, and his headstone in the Woodland cemetery in Dayton, which is the source for his birth and death dates.
The source for the death of Gerard Knapp is his obituary in the Dayton Daily News, Thursday, 21 September 1939, page 8, column 4. He is listed as Jerard Knapp and he is survived by his son, called Orland, and his daughter, Miss Ruth Knapp.

As the 1860 census was taken in June of 1860 and Gerard is listed as 7 months old, that puts his birth around December 1859. The Death Certificate lists his birth as 19 December 1861, which is impossible as he was on the 1860 census. On that basis I have given him the birthdate of 19 December 1859. His birth location of Fayette township is based on the census.
