Note: 52 will of Sarah's father, Jacob Diehl, in which he refers to "Sarah married to Michael Andrew." "Pennsylvania, Probate Records, 1683-1994," images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1942-28792-7530-11?... : accessed 2 January 2015), Northampton > Wills 1839-1865 vol 6-7 > image 399 of 712; The original source for the state of nativity and birth year for Michael is finding he and Sarah on the 1850 Northampton County, Pennsylvania census with children. This is also the only found documented source for wife Sarah's year of birth. "United States Census, 1850," database with images, FamilySearch(https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M4CH-6BR : 9 November 2014), Michael Andrew, Lower Nazareth, Northampton, Pennsylvania, United States; citing family 144, NARA microfilm publication M432 (Washington, D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, n.d.). Name Michael Andrew Event Type Census Event Year 1850 Event Place Lower Nazareth, Northampton, Pennsylvania, United States Gender Male Age 30 Race White Birth Year (Estimated) 1820 Birthplace Pennsylvania, United States Michael Andrew M 30 Pennsylvania, United States Sarah Andrew F 30 Pennsylvania, United States Herman Andrew M 7 Pennsylvania Joseph H Andrew M 5 Pennsylvania Reuben F Andrew M 2 Pennsylvania George J Andrew M 0 Pennsylvania The source for the 'Mar 1842' marriage is based on the age of the oldest child on the census cited above and the data cited below. After Sarah's death Michael and a portion of the family is found on the 1860 Northampton County census. Of the children, only Reuben and Micahel Jr are listed, along with Susan Andrews, age 68, who is most likely the mother of Michael Sr. "United States Census, 1860", database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MX5K-ZG5 : 30 December 2015), Reuben F Andrew in entry for Michael Andrew, 1860. A ten year old George (who died in 1867) is found on the 1860 Northampton census in a poor house, and Herman and Joseph are nowhere to be found on a nationwide census search with wide birth year windows, although Herman is documented as living until 1925. This could imply an early death for Joseph Andrew. "United States Census, 1860", database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MX5K-HJY : 30 December 2015), George Andrew, 1860. A website now called Fold3.com has some of the Civil War pensions online. According the Northampton County Claim for Minor Pension for Michael Andrew Jr. (in my possession) Michael Andrew Sr. (Anders, Andrews) died of chronic diarrhea while serving in the Civil War in Louisiana in 1864. Sarah had died in 1852 a month after the birth of Michael who was under 14 when Michael Sr. died in the war. As an orphan he applied for a pension. The transcription of one of the copies of the documents (in possession of Neil Rutman) reads: "(in print) Henry Knecht, of this county, personally appeared before me this 15 day of June, 1866, and says (In handwriting) he was well acquainted with Michael Andrew, late of said county, deceased, who was a private in the company "A" of the 47th regiment PA. Vols., and with his wife Sarah Andrew whose maiden name was Deel, daughter of Jacob Deel of Bushkill township of said county, that they were married in her father's house in said township in the month of March, not less than twenty three years [ago] and that he was present at their marriage and that they were married by Rev A Fuchs of Bath in said county, that they are both deceased and that they left surviving them five children." On the page entitled 'Claim for Minor Pension' is listed the birth date of Michael Jr and the death date of Michael Sr and Sarah, along with the cause and place of Michael's death. The date of their marriage is once again referred to as either 23 or 24 years ago from 1866. The headstone for Michael Andrew is photographed on FindaGrave.com online and this is confirmation of his birth year as 1820. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=andrew&GSfn=mic&GSpartial=1&GSbyrel=all&GSdy=1864&GSdyrel=in&GSob=n&GRid=26155492&df=all& For some reason, as will be seen from the research under their own pages, some of the children adopted the surname spelling Andre rather than Andrew.
