Notes
a. Note: he only source for his existence is on the 1860 census in the family of James and Serilda McKnight. "United States Census, 1860", database with images, FamilySearch(https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MCL1-WFS : accessed 8 January 2016), Pleasant McKnight in entry for James Mc Knight, 1860.
He does not appear on the 1870 or 1880 Lawrence County census among his McKnight siblings or Johnson step siblings in the home of mother Serilda and stepfather William Johnson.
Note from Marta in the Ironton Briggs Library Aug 18 2015:
"I looked in the Death records which cover 1868-1938 and there was no Pleasant McKnight. I checked our obituary index and there was none. When I checked the cemetery listings I found a Pleasant McKnight buried in Aid Twp. in the Aid cemetery. His death date is listed as 6-29-1883; aged 73 years 5 mos. and 28 days. I don't believe this is your guy.
I also checked the marriage records and he was not there either. On a whim (and knowing how mistakes are often made in genealogy) I tried Knight just in case the Mc had been dropped, missed, whatever. No luck. Try different spellings."
The lack of any adult records for Pleasant McKnight gives credence to the theory that he probably died between 1860 and 1870. The 1910 census for Serilda Johnson in Lawrence County states that she is the mother of 8 children and that only 6 are still living in 1910.   In the Ironton Daily Register 2 Oct 1922 obituary of his mother, Serilda Martin McKnight Johnson, Pleasant is listed as already deceased, along with sister Emily.
