Note: William Henry Freyman died insane and unmarried. A William H Fryman, age 25, is found on the 1870 census in an insane asylum. "United States Census, 1870," database with images, FamilySearch(https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MZPG-HC6 : accessed 18 May 2016), William Fryman, Pennsylvania, United States; citing p. 66, family , NARA microfilm publication M593 (Washington D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, n.d.); FHL microfilm 552,862. Upon researching this possibility, Dick Musselmann came up with the conclusion that this IS most likely the son of Joseph and Lydia Freyman. His research as follows: The search for William Henry Freyman continued with a review of the available records remaining from the Cedarbrook Lehigh County Home where a William Fryman was reported to be living in 1870. These records are now held at the Lehigh County Historical Society in Allentown. A request for these records provided multiple books and collections of documents, most dated after the time frame of interest in the 1860’s and 1870’s. Thefollowing were searched: Poor House Docket 1845-1873: Page 43: William H. Fryman, Insane Born: North Whitehall When Received: Catasauqua (note: This entrycolumn is believed to list the residence location whenadmitted.) When Admitted: 29 Jun.1869 Remarks: 11 Jan.1870, removed by his father(unnamed) Page 43: Wm. Fryman Born: North Whitehall When Received: (no entry) When Admitted: (no entry) Remarks: 27 Nov.1870, removed by Mr. Beers Page 60: Wm. Fryman, Lunatic Born: Catasauqua When Received: Catasauqua When Admitted: 13 Jan.1871 Remarks: 15 May 1871, died of general debility (Note: The Poor House Docketlisting admissions and discharges from 1874 thru 1879 is lost) Poor House Docket 1880-1908: (note: This Docket had no index. It was searched through 1890 with no Freyman/Fryman/Freeman entries found.) Poor House Correspondence File 1860-1884: This book contained several hundred bound letters copied unto a vellum type paper. Many letters had faded and were very difficult to read. Most of the letters concerned the admission status of incoming patients. I found no letters referencing a William or William H. Fryman. I searched these entries from 1860 through 1880. A search of Cedarbrook Cemetery records found no entries for anyone named Fryman, Freyman or Freeman. The available records were transcriptions taken from the remaining gravestone inscriptions, not from official cemetery records which may no longer exist. Based upon the number of recorded graves, it is evident that many graves never received a marker. No indexed Lehigh County newspaper listed the death of a William Fryman in 1871. A search of Lehigh County recorded Deeds found no entries for a William Henry Fryman in the correct time frame. Unfortunately the Cedarbrook records did not provide any information connecting William H. Fryman to the names of his parents. However, I do find the timing of his admission and the release dates interesting when compared to other known Freyman family facts. He was admitted in 1869 and released to his unnamed father in Jan.1870. I believe your Joseph Freyman died about June 1870 in Catasauqua. William Fryman must have been readmitted to Cedarbrook again in 1870 (dateunknown) because he was then removed by a Mr. Beers on 27 Nov. 1870. He was then admitted again in January and died in May 1871. I do not know who Mr. Beers may have been, but the release of William to Mr. Beers suggests that William Fryman’s father may have been deceased by Nov. 1870. This fits the timeline listing the death of Joseph Freyman in Jun. 1870. The listing of Catasauqua for the place of residence of William H. Fryman in 1869 also matches your Joseph Freyman residence location at that time. This is only circumstantial evidence but I do suspect the William H. Fryman in Cedarbrook was the son of your Joseph Freyman. All evidence suggests this possibility with no known conflicts of dates, names or locations. In an earlier era the 1862 Lehigh County Deed Book cites the name 'William Henry Freyman' and is referred to in the past tense in Deed Book entries as late as 1885, though since it references a past event, does not mean that William Henry was alive at the times of each entry (See notes in Freyman file of Neil Rutman). Deed Book A11, page 23 Grantors: Joseph Freyman, Sara Jane Rutman, John Rutman and William Henry Freyman, all the legal representatives and heirs of Lydia Freyman late of Allen Township, Northampton Co., deceased Grantee: Mary Koch of Catasauqua, Lehigh Co.
