Note: sch-Reformierte Church records at Rieschweiler. Her French Republic birth register entry conflicts somewhat with the Rieschweiler baptismal entry. In this register, she is listed has having been born on the "7th day of Meßidor, in the twelfth year of the Republic," which would place her day of birth at 26 June 1804. Civilstandsregister Schmitshausen, Civil birth entry for Margaretha Rottmann, daughter of Jacob Rottmann and Catharina Keller of Schmitshausen. The source for the death and burial of Maria Margretha is Reformierte Kirchenbuch der Pfarrei Winterbach (Zweibrücken, Pfalz). (, 1719-1949.), Burial entry for Margaretha Rottmann, 38 J. alt, Ehefrau von Nickel Hoffmann von Battweiler, Ackersmann. This is probably also the source for the birth, baptism, parental names, death, and burial of Johan Nikolaus, but the source is not listed in the otherwise well sourced 'Register Report for Johann Jacob Rottmann (both marriages)' provided in 2016 by researcher JD Smith and in possession of Neil Rutman. These same research papers state that: "Notes for Johann Nikolaus Hofmann: General Notes: Remarried to Maria Elisabetha Weißhaar after the death of Margaretha Rottmann." No source given as this was a sideline but the source is probably the general registers of Battweiler. The source for the 'abt. 1828' marriage is based on the late 1829 birth of their first child not included here, but all children are cited and documented in the research files of Neil Rutman provided by JD Smith.
