A website now called Fold3.com has some of the Civil War pensions online. According the Northampton County Claim for Minor Pension for Michael Andrew Jr. (in my possession) Michael Andrew Sr. (Anders, Andrews) died of chronic diarrhea while serving in the Civil War in Louisiana in 1864. Sarah had died in 1852 a month after the birth of Michael who was under 14 when Michael Sr. died in the war. As an orphan he applied for a pension. The transcription of one of the copies of the documents (in possession of Neil Rutman) reads:
"(in print) Henry Knecht, of this county, personally appeared before me this 15 day of June, 1866, and says (In handwriting) he was well acquainted with Michael Andrew, late of said county, deceased, who was a private in the company "A" of the 47th regiment PA. Vols., and with his wife Sarah Andrew whose maiden name was Deel, daughter of Jacob Deel of Bushkill township of said county, that they were married in her father's house in said township in the month of March, not less than twenty three years [ago] and that he was present at their marriage and that they were married by Rev A Fuchs of Bath in said county, that they are both deceased and that they left surviving them five children."
On the page entitled 'Claim for Minor Pension' is listed the birth date of Michael Jr and the death date of Michael Sr and Sarah, along with the cause and place of Michael's death. The date of their marriage is once again referred to as either 23 or 24 years ago from 1866.
The headstone for Michael Andrew is photographed on FindaGrave.com online and this is confirmation of his birth year as 1820. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=andrew&GSfn=mic&GSpartial=1&GSbyrel=all&GSdy=1864&GSdyrel=in&GSob=n&GRid=26155492&df=all&
For some reason, as will be seen from the research under their own pages, some of the children adopted the surname spelling Andre rather than Andrew.
Note:   The source for the marriage of Sarah Diehl to Michael Andrews is the 18
