Notes
a. Note: The marital history of George Diehl is unknown at present (2015). There is a George Diehl on the census listings of Northampton County that is close to the age of the George who is the son of Jacob and Catharine.
United States Census, 1860," database, FamilySearch(https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MX5H-7FZ : accessed 28 August 2015), George Diehl, Bushkill Ward Easton, Northampton, Pennsylvania, United States; from "1860 U.S. Federal Census - Population," database, Fold3.com (http://www.fold3.com : n.d.); citing p. 37, household ID 284, NARA microfilm publication M653 (Washington, D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, n.d.); FHL microfilm 805,147.
When I asked the advice of Diehl researcher, Ed Deal of Seattle, as to whether this George could be the son of Jacob and Catharine I received the following response:
  Neil,
Sorry to say that this George and Susan Deal belong to the Conrad Diehl family........here's an excerpt....
  BF32. GEORGE DIEHL, b. 20 MAY 1810, married SUSAN FENSTERMACHER on 27 APR 1827.[1]

GEORGE DIEHL died sometime after the 1870 US Census.[2] SUSAN (FENSTERMACHER) DIEHL lived with her daughter CELINDA HARTZEL. She died 29 AUG 1885 and was buried in Easton Cemetery.[3]
[1] FENSTERMACHER Genealogy says DOB 28 MAY 1810. Baptized 24 JUNE 1810 at Stone Church, Kreidersville, sponsored by HENRY DIEHL and ELIZABETH MICHLE.
[2] 1870 US Census living in Easton with his daughter ELIZA LESHER.
[3] St. Mark’s Reformed records. Buried 31 AUG 1885, Age 78 yrs, 2 mos , 3 days. Easton Cemetery records, Marx Library.
Right now I don't have any good candidates for George......but I have a 1 inch file of George Deal group sheets to sift through and no time........that may have to wait until this winter when I "finish" my work in Philadelphia and start final editing of the Bucks/Northampton book chapter. That missing Orphans Court file would sure be helpful. Another possible lead to pursue......try looking at the Northampton Co deed index for a sale by executor Henry Knecht of Bushkill Twp property of Jacob Diehl starting in 1854.....or it might be indexed as "Jacob Diehl Est.".
  Happy hunting,
 ED
