Note: artin Wilson. The birth year for Sarah Martin Wilson and Henry Wilson is from the 1850, 1860 and 1870 Lawrence County census reports. Henry Wilson bef. 1880 death date is based on the fact that he appears on the 1870 census and Sarah is listed as a widow on the 1880 census. One source for the death of Sarah Martin Wilson is from Ohio, Deaths and Burials, 1854-1997," index, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/F6JJ-6P6 : accessed 12 Dec 2012), Sallie Wilson, 07 Sep 1891. indexing project (batch) number: B07039-7 </search/records/index> system origin: Ohio-EASy source film number: 317745 reference number: v 3 w. The discovery of this record, which lists her age at death as 105, is noteworthy. It suggests her birth year is around 1786, which would put it 6 years prior to the marriage of Benjamin Martin and Judith Walker. Either the informant at her death was incorrect or exaggerating, or her parents, Benjamin and Judith, had children prior to their formal marriage, a custom not uncommon in backwoods 18th century Virginia. I have left Sarah's birth at my original 1796-97 choice, based on the ordering of other researchers. Benjamin and Allen are the only children who appear documented on the 1850 census. By this time most of the children of Henry and Sarah must have married or left home. The 1850 census finds Henry and Sarah with three possible children- Benjamin, born 1837, an illegible male labourer transcribed by some as Leonore and others as Seamore (the original looks like something different and needs another opinion) born abt 1832 and finally, Henry Wilson, born in 1831, but listed as being born in North Carolina? Could he not be a son and simply a visitor? Allen Wilson, another son of Henry and Sarah, is living next door to this family on the 1850 census and houses his grandfather, Benjamin Martin, the father of Sarah Martin Wilson. See notes under Benjamin Martin, b. 1766. I leave out this Leonore and Henry due to illegible name and birth location of Henry. On the 1860 census Henry and Sarah have in their home son Benjamin Martin again, a Crawford, and an eight year old Winfield Martin, of uncertain family connection. Source Citation: Year: 1860; Census Place: Lawrence, Lawrence, Ohio; Roll: M653_997; Page: 44; Image: 92; Family History Library Film: 803997. On the 1870 census we have Henry, Sarah, son Benjamin, and Emeline (Evaline) Short, the woman who becomes the common law wife of Benjamin until their 1885 marriage. See notes under Benjamin Wilson. Citing this Record "United States Census, 1870," index and images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/M62Y-HMP : accessed 30 Nov 2014), Henry Wilson, Ohio, United States; citing p. 14, family 90, NARA microfilm publication M593, National Archives and Records Administration, Washington D.C.; FHL microfilm 000552730. Benjamin is listed as son to the widow Sarah Wilson on the 1880 Lawrence County, Ohio census with his common law wife Evaline Short and children.. As previously mentioned this is only a partial reconstruction of the family of Henry and Sarah Wilson. Without further documentation it would not be clear if other residents in the house 1850-1860 are children, grandchildren, or visitors. More research is necessary to determine the remaining children of Henry and Sarah Wilson.
Note: This is only a partial reconstruction of the family of Henry and Sarah M
