Note: Source Citation: Year: 1850; Census Place: West Salem, Mercer, Pennsylvania; Roll: M432_796; Page: 420B; Image: 719.) and the 1860 census record (Source Citation: Year: 1860; Census Place: West Salem, Mercer, Pennsylvania; Roll: M653_1140; Page: 854; Image: 382; Family History Library Film: 805140.) The birthdate and deathdate for Anna Gangewere is from an undocumented source on New FamilySearch. The death date would account for Abraham having a different wife on the 1870 and 1880 census, and the birthdate makes her the same age as Abraham, as listed on the 1850 and 1860 census, so I have included them here. Subsequent research confirmed this death date which is listed in the obituary of Abraham Ludwig in 'The Argus', Greenville, Pennsylvania, 1 Dec 1881. The source for Milton being the name of her father is found in a 1909 biography of Henry's brother, Ephraim Ludwig, from 'The History of Mercer County, pp. 681-682, 1909. Other undocumented sources online list the father's name as Charles. The source for the second marriage of Abraham is finding him on the 1870 and 1880 Mercer County census with wife Eva. On the 1870 census her birth year is listed as 1810 (age 60) but listed as 1804 (her age looks like 76) on the 1880 census. Source Citation: Year: 1870; Census Place: West Salem, Mercer, Pennsylvania; Roll: M593_1374; Page: 169A; Image: 342; Family History Library Film: 552873. The source for the marriage date of Abraham and Eva and her maiden name is his obituary in 'The Argus', Greenville, Pennsylvania, 1 Dec 1881. CHILDREN: The source for the birth and death dates of Feyanna is her headstone in the Shenango Valley cemetery, Mercer County, Pennsylvania. The marriage of Feyanna to Joseph Auble is based on the 1880 and 1900 Pennsylvania census reports. The marriage of Eliza to a Gardner (first name unknown at present) is based on her living with sister Feyenna on the 1880 census and listed as Eliza Gardner 'sister in law' to Joseph. She had an eleven year old daughter, Irene Gardner. The marriage of Eliza to a Gardner (first name originally unknown) is based on Eliza living with sister Feyenna Aubel on the Pennsylvania 1880 census and listed as Eliza Gardner 'sister in law' to Joseph Aubel . She had an eleven year old daughter, Irene Gardner. Source Citation: Year: 1880; Census Place: West Salem, Mercer, Pennsylvania; Roll: 1156; Family History Film: 1255156; Page: 591C; Enumeration District: 235; Image: 0295. Subsequently Eliza Ann Ludwig was found on an online site at MyTrees.com. http://www.mytrees.com/newanc/Pennsylvania/Born-1844/Lu/Ludwig-family/Eliza-Ludwig-nssar1-3115.html . This site listed a daughter, Irene Gardner, as per the 1880 census listed above, and the name of John Wesley Gardner as husband with dates of birth and death. This information was confirmed on the Public Member Family Tree of RogerLander13 on Ancestry.com. Both sites are unsourced, but it is on this information that I give the name of John Wesley Gardner as the husband of Eliza Ludwig. The Family Tree on Ancestry is also the source for the birth and death information on Irene Gardner. The source for the death of Lucinda Ludwig is "Ohio, Deaths, 1908-1953," index and images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/X6C4-L7Y : accessed 27 Mar 2014), Lucinda Anble, 02 Jul 1926; citing Spencer, Medina, Ohio, reference fn 46041; FHL microfilm 1984360. Her parents names are listed on the certificate. The source for the marriage of Levi and Caroline is their living together as husband and wife on the 1880 Ringgold County, Iowa census. Source Citation: Year: 1880; Census Place: Lincoln, Ringgold, Iowa; Roll: 362; Family History Film: 1254362; Page: 1A; Enumeration District: 195; Image: 0473. Their headstones are together in the Bruning cemetery and Carolines is inscribed Caroline Ludwig Lininger. This is the source for their dates of birth and death. The following obituary appeared for Caroline, without the paper being cited, is transcribed on FindaGrave.com. It is probably from a local Ringold County newspaper: Obituary - Mrs. Levi Lininger.Caroline Ludwig was born in Mercer county, Pennsylvania, July 14, 1837, and died at her home near Diagonal, Iowa, July 15, 1923, aged eighty-six years and one day. Her life was a life of service, of loving devotion to her family and friends, by which she endeared herself to them in a way that will place her in everlasting remembrance. She was received and christened in the Lutheran church in her childhood and died trusting in the Lord and repeatedly calling upon His name. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon, July 17, from the Fairview M. E. church, being conducted by Rev. R. B. Shannon, pastor of the A. To those who sent floral tributes, to those who furnished music and to all who helped to make our burden of grief lighter we are profoundly grateful.THE CHILDREN. Emmeline Ludwig never married. The source for her death is "Ohio, Deaths, 1908-1953," index and images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/X8KY-QJF : accessed 27 Mar 2014), Emeline Ludwig, 07 Jun 1918; citing Spencer, Medina, Ohio, reference fn 39115; FHL microfilm 1984379. The names of her parents are listed on the certificate and she is listed as single. The source for the marriage of Henry Ludwig to Jennie is a comment from a 1909 Pennsylvania biographical sketch for his brother, Ephraim Ludwig, in 'The History of Mercer County', published in 1909, pg. 680, we read the list of Ephraim's siblings as follows, ..."Henry, a carpenter of Oklahoma." Henry was then found on the 1900 Noble County, Oklahoma census living with Jennie, Source Citation: Year: 1900; Census Place: Watkins, Noble, Oklahoma; Roll: 1340; Page: 6A; Enumeration District: 0154; FHL microfilm: 1241340. This Oklahoma Henry is connected with Henry Ludwig, son of Abraham and Anna Ludwig based on an 1897 Noble County Marriage Certificate between Jennie Hargis and Henry Ludwig in which his birthplace is listed as Pennsylvania and parents are A. Ludwig and Anna Gangawere. At first appearance it seems that Austin may have died young. He is listed on the 1860 census as age seven, but does not appear on the 1870 census with the family of Abraham Ludwig, nor does he appear in the county living elsewhere, or on a national search. However, Austin is listed in the 1909 biography referred to in the paragraph two above. While listing the siblings of Ephraim Ludwig we read, "Emmeline, unmarried, at Hancock, Ohio; Austin, also of the same place. I have been unable to find an Austin Ludwig in Ohio on either the 1900 or 1910 census, but while he is nowhere to be found between 1860 and this 1909 reference, it seems he survived into adulthood.
Note: The source for the family of Abraham Ludwig is the 1850 census record (
