Notes
a. Note:   irginia census records and 1860 Lawrence Co, Ohio census record and for births and some marriages the Grayson County, Va. vital records, film no 7554. Source for most death dates are Ohio state issued death certificates, or the records of the Lebanon Cemetery, Fayette, Lawrence, Ohio. A good source for the dates of births, marriages, and deaths of the descendants of Benjamin More with multiple primary sources is http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=ricknlida&id=I544.
  PARENTS:
Another source for the birth date of Amos is a photocopy of a page from the Barber Family Bible, which I have seen. "Documentation for birth-death-marriage. Gordon Burney, PO Box 515, Summerland, FL 93067. Letter received Nov, Dec 1993 by Marilyn P Devaney. Photocopy of family Bible sent to Gordon by Dave Moore, Sarasota, FL, 21 March, 1993." The page was sent to me by Marilyn Devaney listed above. It reads:
"Amos Moore was born the 28th of September in the year 1805 (year barely legible).
Amos moved to Lawrence County, Ohio between 1850 and 1859. It is not known when his wife Rebecca died, but most scholars have assumed it was after their removal to Lawrence County. Some sources list her death as Jan 1860, which must be a mistake, as it was certainly before Amos' 1859 second marriage to Lydia Anne Knapp. The Marriage books for Lawrence County show that Amos married Lydia on 25 Jan 1859, and the census records indicate their first son, Gerard, was born about 1860.
Amos Moore's second wife, Lydia Ann Knapp was born Lydia Taylor and had been married previously to Charles W Knapp, born abt 1827 in Ohio. The source for this is the 1850 Putnam County, Virginia, District 46 census. Charles obviously died before 1859. After Lydia married Amos Moore in 1859 she appears on the Lawrence County 1860 census record twice- once living with Amos and his other children as Lydia Moore with son Gerard Moore in Fayette, and a second time as Lydia Moore with son Gerard Moore in Union with her Knapp children by the previous marriage. This is the last time she appears as Lydia Moore or that Gerard appears as Gerard Moore. On the 1870 and 1880 census records Lydia and Amos are living apart, Amos with his children and Lydia with her children and her mother, Lucinda Taylor. After the 1870 census both Lydia and Gerard take the surname Knapp. Presumably there was a rupture in the marriage between Amos and Lydia and she took her former married name. As Gerard grew up with his half brothers and sisters from infancy who were Knapps, it is likely that Lydia chose to call him by the surname Knapp. There is no indication of what the problem may have been. Lydia's Knapp children on the 1860 Ohio census are also on the 1850 Putnam County, Virginia census. Lydia and Gerard Moore are referred to as Lydia and Gerard Knapp on all records after 1870 and so have been called here.
  CHILDREN:
Info on the birth and death of Austin Moore is from his State of Missouri death certificate.
Birth of Elizabeth Jane 1860 Lawrence Co, Ohio census records, and Grayson County, Va. vital records, film no 7554. Name and birth information on husband of Jane is from 1870 Lawrence, Ohio census. Further info on the birth and death of Jane Elizabeth Moore is from her State of Ohio death certificate. Marriage date and place is from Lawrence, Co, Ohio marriage book 6, page 229.
Source for marriage of Alfred to Michal is the Lawrence County Marriage Book 9, pg 355. Information on the birth of Michal and children is from the 1880 Lawrence Co, Ohio census, Roll T9_1039, Family History Film 1255039, pg 103.4000.
The source for the reconstruction of the family of Alfred is from the 1870 and 1880 Lawrence Co, Ohio census. The source for Alfred's burial date is the Semi-Weekly Irontonian, 16 Feb, 1909.
Child no. 8 is known as Jefferson on the 1850 Grayson Co, Virginia census and William J. on the 1860 Lawrence Co, Ohio census. The source of finding William and his bride was a clue in the 1909 obituary of his brother, Isaac Moore from the 15 Jan 1909 Semi-Weekly Irontonian which states, "He is also survived by the following brothers....William of Indianapolis, Ind."
William and Malinda are found on the 1900 Indiana census under William J Moore. This document is the source for the birth month and year of William and Malinda, her state of nativity, and the year of their marriage. Source Citation: Year: 1900; Census Place: Clark, Johnson, Indiana; Roll: 381; Page: 8A; Enumeration District: 0003; FHL microfilm: 1240381.
William J and Malinda are also found on the 1870 and 1880 Union County, Indiana census with children.

The source for the death of William J Moore is his headstone in the Acton cemetery, in Marion County, Indiana.
Lucinda appears on the 1850 Grayson Co, Virginia census as a 3 year old. There is no record of Lucinda as a 13 year old on the 1860 Lawrence Co, Ohio census living with this family, or anywhere else in the county. It is likely that she died young, sometime before the families move to Ohio and the 1860 census. As a confusing distraction there were two Lucinda Moore's married in Lawrence County between 1866 and 1869 and recorded in the Marriage Book 9 from Lawrence County. This would have been the perfect marriage age for our Lucinda. However, the Lucinda who married William Hackworth does NOT belong to our family. Tracing her to an Ohio death certificate in 1918 showed that her father was Emmanuel, and not Amos Moore. The other Lucinda Moore who married Isaac Moore would be more likely ours, but there is not conclusive evidence that this is the right Lucinda, even though age, name, and marrying into the same family would lead us to believe it is. The fact that Lucinda is not on the 1860 census with family is stronger evidence that she did, in fact, die young and that there were other Moore girls named Lucinda. A great puzzle!
The source for the birth and death dates of Isaac Moore and his wife Josephine is the Lebanon Cemetery, Fayetteville, Lawrence, Ohio.
Note:   Sources for the reconstruction of this family are the 1850 Grayson Co, V
