Notes
a. Note:   Daniel is known to be in Canada in 1891, when he arrived is not yet known. He married Lillie Wilbur in 1892 but abandoned his family before the 1901 census. I now believe he could have returned to England. His brother, Harry's UK Military records listed Dan as the next of kin after the death of there father in 1897. That record read as follows:
  "Next of kin first given as Father, Daniel St. Leonard St Peterborough, croosed out with deceased 28 Dec 1897 written, then added beneath is Brother Daniel Royal Hotel Peterborough."
  At some point Dan (and Harry) were back in Canada. In 1915 Harry's CEF WW1 Military Records listed again his brother Dan as the next of Kin with a residence given as Vancouver, BC.
  Daniel's obituary was published as follows in The Vancouver Sun on Tuesday, January 31, 1939 stated:
  LEIGHTON - On Jan. 30, 1939 in hospital, Daniel Leighton, of 1386 Burrard
 St., aged 71 years. Deceased leaves 2 brothers, Charles in England, Harry
 in Australia; 3 sisters and 1 nephew in England, to mourn his passing.
 Funeral service in Center & Hanna's Chapel, Wednesday at 2:30 p.m., Rev.
 Canon Harold G. King officiating. Committal, Mountain View cemetery.
