Source: Dorothy Burke April 2009 Correspondence England & Wales, Death Index: 1916-2005 about Louisa Leighton Name: Louisa Leighton Birth Date: 3 Sep 1874 Death Registration Month/Year: 1972 Registration district: Brighton Inferred County: Sussex Volume: 5h Page: 421 Louisa and Edward Reddish were NEVER married. --------------- Correspondence received January 2020. Hi Heather! Louisa Quickenden married to Robert Leighton in your tree was my grandfather's half sister. They lived in Brighton and the family has been very confusing to trace. Louisa's mother , Annie Leonard, married George Quickenden. They had 3 daughters: Annie Jerusha who died young, Louisa ("Louie") and Ella Jane. George died and Annie became housekeeper (per the census) to my gt grandfather, Walter Harman. He apparently married and for some reason was separated from his wife and they did not divorce. I have never been able to locate that marriage. But Walter and Annie had 3 children together: Walter, Lillian and Arthur. Walter (Jr) was my grandfather. Louie was an ornamental diver at the Brighton Pier in her youth and she had an illegitimate daughter, Elise, with Edward Johnson Reddish (professionally called Professor Reddish... he rode a bicycle off of the Brighton Pier... quite the entertainment in those days! She then later married Robert Leighton, and I have identified 4 children for them. In the 70's I was in England on a University year abroad (I live in California) and Elise's sons's ex-wife (see, I told you!) took me to Brighton for the day and we went to a small house where I met... who? It was 1975, so it wasn't Louie. I thought that Rob, Louie's son, was there... he was a bit disabled as I remember being told. Anyhow... what else do I have. Oh, I'm i touch with Ella (Louie's sister) gt grandson. He took my mother, my husband and me all around Brighton and we found Walter and Annie's graves, which was important to my mother - she had never met her grandparents (her father emigrated to Boston in 1910) Anyhow, I came upon your tree when doing some browsing on Ancestry and thought I'd say hi and give you a few snippets of info, even if they aren't in your direct line.
