a. Note:   The following is an obituary that may have been in the Saint John Telegraph Journal or the Saint Croix Courier in August of 1979.
  The death of Earl Stanley Worthen of North Head, Grand Manan, occurred on August 4, 1979, at Grand Manan Hospital, following a heart seizure.
 Born July 20, 1904 at Ecum Secum, NS, a son of the late William Sidney and Addie Loretta (Stanley) Worthen, he lived most of his life on Grand Manan where he had been engaged in the fishing business for many years. He was a member of the Anglican Church where he served as warden for 13 years at the Church of the Ascension. He was also a member of the I.O.O.F. and the Orange Lodge Associations.
 Surviving are his wife, Clara (Brown), a daughter, Marjorie Leighton of Moncton, two brothers, Lloyd and Douglas, 10 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Two sons, Gerald and Sidney predeceased him.
 Funeral services were held at the Church of the Ascension, North Head on Monday, August 6, conducted by Rev. Milton F. Dorman of Church of the Good Shepherd, Saint John. Mrs Clifford Stanley acted as organist. Pallbearers were craig Cheney, Ferd Foote, Herb MacCauley, and Harry Stanley. Internment was in North Head Cemetery.
 Many floral tributes were received and contributions were made to the Heart Fund, Church Restoration Fund, Ocean View Lodge, Gideon Bibles and other funds in his name.

  The family of the late Earl Worthen wish to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to their relatives, friends, and neighbours for their many acts of kindness, expressions of sympathy, flowers, memorials, cooking, cards, visits and phone calls during their recent bereavement. Special thanks to Rev. Milton F. Dorman, Dr. Dapena and the nurses at Grand Manan Hospital. Your kindness will always be remembered.

  Loses Boat: According to a report from Grand Manan the lobster boat owned by Earl Worthen went ashore during the big blow last week and became almost a complete wreck, the loss having been placed at around $2,000.
