a. Note:   Doris and Michael arrived in Halifax Nova Scotia in 1945 on board the ship "Acrotania", sister ship to the "Lucitania". They sailed to Canada from South Hampton, England.

  In July 2007 Heather went to Moncton NB on vacation. While there she had a chance to talk to her uncle, Wayne Leighton. He told her that Doris had gone to the Doctor in September 1988 as she had a cough that she could not get rid of. She also had a couple fainting spells the previous week and in one had cut her lip and it was not healing. She went to see Dr. McRae on a Monday. He called her in on Thursday with test results indicating she had cancer of the lung. The following Monday she was scheduled to go to the Moncton Hospital for further testing.
  She went in on the Monday. Dr Ruben, the cancer specialist called the family in on Tuesday to say the cancer had spread to her brain. There was nothing that could be done and he gave her two weeks. By Wednesday she was no longer able to recognize people and she was placed on high morphine dosages to keep her comfortable. She died around 6am 3 days later on Saturday September 24 with her children by her side.
