When anyone was ill or had a baby or needed help, she was there. In early 1960 when she was unable to live alone, her home was sold and she went to live in Jones Rest home in Paducah. She called it her "home" and had a great deal of freedom of movement. She would go to a nearby store to buy magazines. The name of the home changed to McElrath Rest Home in 1968. She became ill in Jan 1968, was treated by Dr. Sullivan, by May she was worse. Son Sammie Brown and wife Bebo drove her to Shelbyville where daughter Myra Jean could watch over her. June 1 she went to the Colonial Hall Rest Home. on June 2 she fell and broke her hip and was taken to Kings Daughters Hospital. On the same day day she suffered a pulmonary embolism, later tests showed she had uremia. She died at 2:00 p.m., June 6, 1968. Her Daughter Myra Jean Mayer and Granddaughter Judith Meacham Carson were at her bedside when she died. (Myra Jean) One of the sweetest memories I have of her - almost 2 weeks before she died I overheard her praying aloud "Dear God please help me with this aching back, so I can be of some use."
