Notes
a. Note:   H12
Note:   Sarah Sally Johnson was born about 1805 in Kentucky and probably in Christian County of that state. She was enumerated in 1880 in Ozark Township, Texas County, Missouri, stating that she was age 75 years, and this appears to be the last record in which Sarah is documented, She probably died after 1880 in the area of Big Creek, Texas County, Missouri. Sarah Johnson married James Spiva about 1820 due to the timing of the birth of their children.  James Spiva, son of Jonas Spiva and Mary Bethany Ledbetter, was born about 1800 and died 1842-1844. The proof of their marriage is found in the recitals referring to them in the Estate of David Johnson. James Spiva is a beneficiary in the Will of Jonas Spiva which was proved in the Circuit Court for Madison County, Missouri. The Will of Jonas Spiva or Spivey was executed on February 7, 1828, in Madison County, Missouri, and the testator recited that his beneficiaries included his wife Bethany, and his children Kizah Hicks, Elizabeth, Sary, Mary Curey, William Spivy, Elisha Spivy, Hannah Martin, Rhody Moor, Cyntha Bridges, Sally Martin, James Spivy, Dovy Johnson, and Nancy Flanry [Flannery].
James and Sarah Johnson Spivey lived in Cape Girardeau County and by 1836 they moved to Wayne County where James Spivey died. In 1850 and 1860 Sarah Spivey is a widow and is living in Duck Creek Township located in Stoddard County, Missouri, surrounded by her nephews and niece, the children of her deceased brother William Johnson. It will be remembered that Stoddard County was carved out of Cape Girardeau County on January 2, 1835.
In 1870 Sarah is living in Hazlewood Township of Webster County, Missouri, with the family of Col. Thomas Calvin and Sallie J. (Rogers) Love. Her occupation is knitting. Included in the household is Samuel Macom age 9, Cynthia C. Macom age 8, Lafayette Macom age 17, and Janis Macom age 8, all natives of Missouri. The Macom children are the grandchildren of Sarah (Johnson) Spiva and also the grandchildren of Cynthia Ann (Johnson) Macom, Sarahs niece, who died about 1850. Sarah would be their great aunt and this would certainly explain why Sarah is living in the Love household with the Macom children in Webster County, Missouri.
In 1880 Sarah is living with her son Jonathan Spiva in the Big Creek area of Ozark Twp, Texas County, Missouri, Jonathan having recently returned to Missouri after living and farming near Live Oak in Sutter County, California. Unfortunately, the 1880 census form is blank for the nativity of her father and mother.
James Spiva and Sarah Johnson had nine children:
  Pleasant Spiva born about 1821
 Archibald Spiva born about 1823
Unknown daughter Spiva born about 1825
 James Spiva born about 1828
Jonathan Spiva born January 22, 1831
 Elisha Spiva born about 1833
 Marzilla Spiva born about 1836
 Bathsheba Spiva born about 1840
Mary Ann Spiva born about 1842
In addition, if Pleasant Spiva married prior to the 1840 census, which is viewed as unlikely, and was not living with his parents, there may be an additional son born to James and Sarah. Yet to be placed is a Thomas Spiva born about 1828.
