Note: Maria Louisa Johnson was born March 22, 1816, in the Territory of Missouri, and died on March 4, 1895, in Meridian, Sutter County, California. She married on May 7, 1834 in Perry County, Missouri, Joseph L. Moss, who died in Randolph County, Illinois, in February of 1842. The marriage was solemnized by Austin Hofard, a Minister of the Gospel, with the marriage record reciting that she is the daughter of Noble Johnson. By 1839 they are living in Randolph County, Illinois, based upon the place of birth of their second child, Mary Jane Moss. Her father, Noble Johnson, served as administrator of the estate of Joseph L. Moss, who died intestate prior to February 15, 1842. The estate was filed in the Circuit Court for Randolph County located in Chester, Illinois. Maria Louisa Johnson Moss married second on May 19, 1844 in Madison County, Missouri, Joseph Darlington Johnson (her cousin), the son of Davis Johnson and Elizabeth Cato.
