Note: William Bailey Smith was born 1871 in William Penn, Washington County, TX. He was the son of George Edward (Ned) Smith and Nancy Briley Lipscomb. The family moved to Collin County, TX (near Denton Co.) by 1880. Later, William helped take care of his family until 1907. At this time, he went by immigrant train to Hale Center, TX seeking land. Land was bought from J. C. Frye. He then went back to Collin County, TX, and married Mary Eleanor (Ella) Cook in 1908. They married in the house where Ella was born. They moved everything that he owned by train to Amarillo, then Plainview. A farm near Hale Center, TX was their home, and they raised five children. He farmed, raised cattle and chickens, and always had a big vegetable garden. After a long illness at home, he died in a nursing home in Littlefield, Lamb County, TX. William was the son of George Edward "Ned" and Nancy Briley Lipscomb Smith. He married Mary Eleanor "Ella" Cook on 17 May 1908 in Frisco, Collin County, Texas.
