Bob grew up partly in Pittsburgh, and then attended high school in Coudersport, the old family hometown, in Potter County, PA. After Coudersport both he and his brother Jim attended Peddie School in Hightstown NJ where they were active athletes. Bob earned a number of medals at various track events and played football there.
He went to Dartmouth where he played football (and is said to have scored the first touchdown of the season in his first game!) However, later he had a medical problem that prevented him from taking part in sports. He did have various sports injuries including back and knee problems that kept him out of the service when the war came along in 1941. He was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity but senior year instead of rooming at the fraternity, shared an apartment in town with his roommate George Porter, son of a Russian Jewish family who had emigrated to the US and become successful in the shoe manufactuing business. Needless to say, Jews were not welcome in fraternities in the Ivy league in 1938.
In Hanover, Bob met Winifred Hammond, a graduate of Keene Normal School who was teaching there. They were married in 1940 and son Robert K. III was born in 1941. During WW-II Bob worked for a chemical company as a technical person working on installing equipment in ammunition plants, but after the war he was laid off and found it hard to get new work. Eventually thanks to his friendly personality he did succeed quite well as a salesman and then decided to go back to school to become a certified teacher, which he did during the 1950s. teaching first at Pepperell, MA, then at Chelmsford, MA, then moving to Tucson where he taught for 17 years before retiring. He had completed Master's degrees at Boston University and University of Arizona
He was an avid sports fan, often spending an afternoon watching football or baseball games on the TV. He played golf enthusiastically and well, winning some club championships, and enjoying the sociability of the clubhouse and links. For fun, he played at St Andrews, Pebble Beach and some other famous courses.

Note: the "e" spelling of surname in 1920 census is just a blot or a spelling error by the enumerator. As far as we know Robert never spelled his name any other way than "McConeghy".
Lillian Lockard is a complete surprise. We were previously unaware of her existence. Lockard obviously was her married name. She must be the Lilly M. Walker who is listed , age 9, in the 1880 census as a grand-daughter of Eliza Walker, we have as yet been unable to identify her parents. She was born around 1871.
