Note: Jim and Bob McConeghy grew up in Pittsburgh, PA, and then in attended high school in Coudersport, PA, the family hometown. They both then attended The Peddie School in Hightstown, NJ and Jim then went on to Brown University. He was a fine athlete and competed in track and field, in pole vaulting and other events. During World War II Jim was an employee of Martin aircraft and was a member of the design team for the B26 bomber and other projects. After the war he became a civil servant and was involved in many government health projects, including setting standards for radiation emissions from TVs during the 1950s, and other safety projects. Jim was active in his community, especially in his Presbyterian church groups. He enjoyed gardening and caring for his yard at the family home on Wadsworth Dr in Bethesda, MD. They moved into that home as the first occupants as it was then a newly developed home on the outskirts of the growing suburbs. The interstate system had not yet been completed and the Beltway was built soon after they moved in. The family bought a summer home at Deep Creek, and then he retired with Mary to New Smyrna Beach, Florida where several other families of friends from the church had moved. Unfortunately he was a heavy cigarette smoker and sadly died prematurely from classic smokers lung cancer. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1920 US Census Ward 9, Pittsburgh, Allegheny, PA, dwelling 211, family 255, page 24 of 24, enumerated January 16, 1920. roll T625_1520, page 12B, ED #460 living at #249 Fisk St, rented Robert McConeghey (sic) , head, 36, born in PA, father born in PA, mother born in PA, occ: doctor M.D. Elsie, wife, 30, born in PA, father born in PA, mother born in PA Josephine, daughter, 8, born in PA, parents born in PA James, son, 6, born in PA, parents born in PA Robert, son, 5, born in PA, parents born in PA Lillian Lockard, cousin, 49, widow, born in PA, father born in PA, mother born in PA -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------ Note: the "e" spelling of surname in 1920 census is just a blot or a spelling error by the enumerator. As far as we know Robert never spelled his name any other way than "McConeghy". Lillian Lockard is a complete surprise. We were previously unaware of her existence. Lockard obviously was her married name. She must be the Lilly M. Walker who is listed , age 9, in the 1880 census as a grand-daughter of Eliza Walker, we have as yet been unable to identify her parents. She was born around 1871. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------ 1930 US Census, Coudersport Borough, First ward, Potter County, Pennsylvania, ED #6, dwelling # 546, family #556, sheet #22-B, image #43 of 53, enumerated May 2 1930 (address 103 Water(??)
