Note: at the time of their marriage Fred a Lieutenant in the Army and Jessie's father was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army.
Jessie was a warmhearted woman who was always ready to help a neighbor. In retirement, after her husbands death, she was a driver for the Senior help Program Meals-on-Wheels, and had her radio "scanner" always tuned to the local police and fire transmissions so she could spot a potential helpee!
She and Fred lived in Durham NC for many years while Fred was on the Faculty at Duke. In some ways, she did not fit the profile of a faculty wife and was not engaged in the university community life. She was happy to return to New Hampshire, where she felt more at home.
