Note: Margaret never married, she lived with sister Mary in the family home in Lowell, MA then later they sold the house and moved to an apartment in Chelmsford, MA. Margaret worked as a shopgirl in various shops, RKM-III remembers a time when she worked in a butter and eggs shop in Lowell. She also made hats when she was younger (her sister was a skilled dressmaker). She was always a cheery, positive person. As an elderly lady she lived with Mildred Greenhalgh in Chelmsford. One time when Matt McConeghy was visiting, she asked him what he was doing and he told her that he was interested in Scottish fiddling -- she promptly got up and did a schottische, accompanying herself singing "Gin a body meets a body comin' thru the Rye.." According to one story, Margaret had a boyfriend at the time of World War I. he went into the service and at some point during the war, Matthew Hammond (her brother-in-law) ran across the boyfriend in France doing something which he highly disapproved of, so word went back through the family that this guy was not acceptable. She never married. During the 1950s after they had sold the family home on Westford Street in Lowell, Mary and Margaret lived in the apartment building in downtown Chelmsford immediately next to Beaver Brook (one year during one of the rare hurricanes that made it as far North as New England there was some concern about the safety of the building due to possible flooding). Mary and Margaret often visited and babysat or cooked for Robert and Winifred McConeghy's family and Alan and Mildred Greenhalgh's family both of which lived on nearby Littleton Road in Chelmsford and shared in many family holiday celebrations. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------ 1910 US Census, Lowell , Ward 8, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, ED # 874 , dwelling # 281, family # 329, enumerated April 23, 1910, sheet # 13-A, genealogy.com image # 87 of 208, Roll 601, Book 1 address: 459 Chelmsford Street Andrew Taylor, head, age 52, married for 31 years, born in Scotland, parents born in Scotland, language: English, immigrated 1906, alien, occ: tinsmith - machine shop, rented his house Mary, wife, age 52, married for 31 years, had 5 children, 5 living, born in Scotland, parents born in Scotland, language: English, immigrated 1906, occ: none Mary, daughter, age 30, born in Scotland, parents born in Scotland, language: English, immigrated 1904, occ: dressmaker - at home Margaret, daughter, age 28, born in Scotland, parents born in Scotland, language: English, immigrated 1906, occ: dressmaker - at home, John, son, age 25, born in Scotland, parents born in Scotland, language: English, immigrated 1906, alien, pattern maker, pattern shop Jessie, daughter, age 20, born in Scotland, parents born in Scotland, language: English, immigrated 1906, inspector - hosiery Winnifred (sic), daughter, age 13, born in Scotland, parents born in Scotland, language: English, immigrated 1906, occ: none, attended school Matthew Hammond, lodger, age 22, borjn in England, parents born in England, language English, immigrated 1909, alien, occ: lineman - telephone Co.
