  1. Thomas Cassady: Birth: BET 1823 AND 1824 in County Monaghan, Ireland. Death: 1887 in Rockhill, Huntingdon, Pennsylvania ?

Notes
a. Note:   Apparently Thomas Cassady came from County Monaghan according to the bio on Owen and his father in the Juniata Valley biographical dictionary.
There was a Joseph Cassidy born in 1821 in Kill, County Monaghan, Ireland who also emigrated to Canada and settled in the Sherbrooke area of Quebec, near Magog, his wife's name was Ellen Reilly and she was born in Shipton, Sherbrooke. Her parents were from Ireland. The parents of Joseph were George Cassidy and Judith Gallowan. Joseph died in 1901 in Magog. Joesph and Ellen were married in Sherbrooke in Nov 18 1841 and had at least 13 children. This Joseph could not have been Thomas's older brother but the may have been related more distantly in some way but there is no evidence of this.
Thomas's marriage record says that his parents were Phillip Cassady and Ellen McCabe. So we have no hard evidence yet on where in Ireland this Cassady family originated. We believe it was County Monaghan.
We don't know if Phillip and Ellen emigrated with the children or stayed in Ireland. As far as we now know, they did not emigrate. Dates are merely estimates.
(The name McCabe has been reported as "McCak" this apparently was a mistransciption of some bad handwriting)

The following census record refers to a man named Philip Cassady who was living in 1870 in the same town where Thomas Cassady was living with his second wife and their children. There is a small possibility that this could have been Thomas's father but we have no real evidence of this.
  1870 US Census, Philipstown, (post office: Mahopac Falls),Putnam County, New York, page# ??(stamped #118-B), dwelling #540, family #729, genealogy.com image #88 of 128, enumerated July 9, 1870.
Ellen Dunseith, (head), age 60, born in Scotland, parents foreign born, occ: keeping house, could not write
Phillip Cassidy, (boarder?), age 73, born in Canada, parents foreign born occ: at home, (attended school ?!?), not a citizen
Note: Phillip is marked as having attended school within the year - this seems unlikely at age 73. There were no children on any nearby rows that the enumerator could have intended this mark to be for, maybe he intended to mark the "can't read" column ?
We only suspect that this Phillip might be the father of Thomas Cassady who was also living in Philipstown at the time with his second wife and 3 youngest children and working in the Cold Spring Foundry. If so, Philip would actually have been born in Ireland but had lived in Canada earlier.
Ellen Dunseith was the widow of William Dunseith. She probably was no relation, just some widow that Phillip was living with in his old age.
If she was related she could not have been Phillip's daughter since he was only 13 years older than she was. We had evidence that Phillip's wife was Ellen McCabe mother of Thomas Cassady and had assumed that she had also been born in Ireland and that she and Philip had been married in Ireland, but it is possible that Phillip had emigrated to Canada and had married Ellen McCabe in Canada and she had really come from Scotland and this Ellen Dunseith might have been her daughter from a previous marriage??
