Note: Walker family Bible reads "Jacob Walker and Hannah [Wagoner]? was barried(sic) 20th of of(sic) October in year 1867 by David (or Danel] Giles of Huntingdon County in Pennsylvania" Her maiden surname is very unclear. It is believed to be Wagoner (possibly from other family sources ?) but I have difficulty recognizing that in what I can see on the page. It might be Wagner or any other possible combination of letters Walker Family Bible reads " Jacob Walker was borne October the 22d A.D. 1844" -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1850 US Census, South Woodbury Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania, page 213-B, Dwelling #41, Family #42, ancestry.com image #4 of 26, enumerated October 15, 1850. John Walker, head, age 41(or40)!, occ: laborer, born in PA Elisa(sic),(wife), age 38, born in PA Hannah, (daughter), age 10, born in PA Jacob, (son), age 7, born in PA Joseph, (son), age 5, born in PA Sarah, (daughter), age 3, born in PA John W.,(son) age 1, born in PA (John's age is way off here he must have been about 55, and Eliza must have been 28 not 38, son John W. apparently died in childhood because he does not appear in the 1860 census. Ages of the children are all a bit off as well. This enumerator did not mark the column for "attended school" for anyone on this page, but did mark that column on other pages. ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1860 US Census, Clay Township (Post Office : Shirleysburg), Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, page 44 (stamped 164), dwelling #305, Family # 297, Roll 1115, Book 1, genealogy.com image #26 of 27 for Clay Twp), enumerated October 27, 1860. John Walker, (head), age 65, real estate $150, personal property $300, occ: blank, born in PA Eliza A., (wife), age 38, born in PA Jacob, (son), age 15, born in PA, attended school Sarah A., (daughter), age 15, born in PA, attended school Joseph, (son), age 14, born in PA, attended school Charles A.(?), (son), age 10, born in PA, attended school Henry A., (son), age 8, born in PA Margaret, (daughter), age 5, born in PA Barton D., (son), age 2, born in PA Note: almost all the people in this Township were dittoed as born in PA which is a bit suspicious. No occupation was given for anyone in the family. Immediate neighbors were farmers, others in the immediate area were laborer, mill wright, shoemaker. Barton D. is clearly the same child as the "Bartin" age 10 listed in 1870 but he should have been 12 there. Barton might actually be Bartin here but there is no clear dot over the letter i. He should have only been 11 months old here, not 2, but it is possible that the ages were supplied by a neighbor or one of the children. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1870 US Census, Taylor Township, Post Office Dublin Mills, Fulton County, Pennsylvania, Roll 1347, Book 1, page 83-A, dwelling #104, family #103, genealogy.com image 15 of 22, enumerated June 16, 1870. Jacob Walker, head, age 26, occ: farm laborer, born in PA, value of personal property $125 Hannah, wife, age 25, keeping house, born in PA, could not read or write Franklin, son, age 2, born in PA Anna M., daughter, age 1, born in PA ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jacob had died before June 1 1880. he was not listed in the 1880 census with the family. The youngest child was then 3, so Jacob must have died between 1876 and 1880. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------- - We finally have a photo of Jacob and Hanna's gravestone in the Orbisonia Cemetery thanks to Sue Smith. It reads : JACOB WALKER 1844-1879 HANNAH, HIS WIFE 1844-BLANK EMMA E. D. 1874-1875 GEORGE W. 1872-1911 DAVID F. 1867-BLANK ------------------------------------------------------ Since Hanna's death date is blank, possibly she perhaps had purchased the stone perhaps in 1879 when Jacob died, or more likely in 1911 when George W. died. Since her death date was never inscribed, nor was David F.'s I assume that they both died sometime after 1911 when George W. died. The style and condition of the stone look more likely to have been a stone from 1911 so it may have replaced an older stone or maybe there had been no large stone prior to this one. I assume that Hannah and David actually are buried in the plot but that there was no one left to arrange for the adding of their dates. We had no previous knowledge of an EMMA E. D. and since she died between censuses she would not have ever been counted. All our data on Jacob and Hannah's children comes from the 1880 census and this stone so far (August 2002) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------- There is also another small stone in the Orbisonia Cemetery that I photographed in August 2003 that reads: "Jacob Walker CO. ? 16th PA CAV." It bears no dates. (I did not find the stone that Sue photographed - so I don't know if it was near this other stone) Since George and David F. are buried with their parents, I assume they never married or had children.
