Note: 1900 census, enumerated June 1 1900, says Kate and John had been married for 19 years, so the marriage may have taken place after June of 1882. I do not believe that we had any other confirming data for that. according to the Eulalia Cemetery database, he died on November 16 1933, we had November 15 1933 [Laura Larrabee McConeghy] with burial on November 17. He had lived for many years in Coudersport and worked as an Engineer for the C.& P. On the first page the McConeghy surname is difficult to read, it looks like McConagr/v or McConager or McConafer, on the second page it is looks more like McConethy. It is misindexed as Mc conager(Unknown) or Mc conaghr (Unknown) in ancestry.com's index on genealogy.com it is indexed as McConafer. wife Matilda's age appears to be listed as 49 but she should have been 47 so it is possibly just sloppy writing. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------- 1880 US Census Larrabee Village, Eldred Township, McKean County, Pennsylvania, ED #87, Dwelling #558, family # 580, page #58, sheet 274-B, enumerated July 16, 1880, ancestry.com image # 58 of 67. If she had been 36 in July 1860 (census) she should have been 56 in July 1880 (census) the birthdate we have for her would have made her 37 in 1860 and 57 in 1880 not 58.) Census ages are sometimes confusing - the 1880 census instructions say to enter the age at last birthday prior to June 1 1880. The census year officially ended May 31, so they wanted the age of people withing the census year, but in this case they were enumerating 90 days later than that so who knows what they were actually recording) Other than the mother, the ages are all about as expected plus or minus one year. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------ 1900 US Census, Coudersport Boro, Eulalia Township, Potter County, Pennsylvania, enumerated June 1 1900, ED #105 sheet # 2A, dwelling #25, family #28, genealogy.com image # 36 of 91. address : South Main Street (numbers not recorded) John McConneghey (sic), head, born Nov 1852, age 47, married 19 years, born in Delaware, both parents born in Scotland (sic), occ: RR Engineer, owned his home (mortgaged) Kate, wife, born July 1854, age 45, married 19 years, 1 child 1 living, born in New York, both parents born in Germany Paul, son, born Feb 1884 (sic), age 16, single, born in Pennsylvania -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------- 1910 US Census, ED #111, Ward 2, Coudersport, Eulalia Township, Potter County, Pennsylvania, dwelling #83, family # 91, sheet 4-B, enumerated April 15, 1910. address 405 Main Street John McConeghy, head, age 58, married 27 years, born in Delaware, parents born in Ireland-Scott., occ: Engineer-Rail Road, owned his home Kate, wife, age 54, married 27 years had 1 child, born in New York, parents born in Germany-German J. Paul, son, age 26, single, born in Pennsylvania, occ: salesman-Jewelry Store Note: 1900 census says they had been married for 19 years (about 1881) now 10 years later they say they have been married 27 years (about 1883) and the ages at first marriage given in the 1930 census would place the marriage around 1876 or 1877?? With Paul's birtdate in 1884 the 1883 date for the marriage seems more likely although it would seem more likely that they would have had a more accurate date in the 1900 census (Note: Matilda Reidy and daughter Matilda lived next door) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------- 1920 US Census, Coudersport, Ward 2, Potter Co, PA, visit # 217 John McConeghy, 67, born in DE, parents born in Ireland, occ : engineer Kate, wife, 63, born in NY, parents born in Germany Paul, son, 35, born in PA, occ: prop. jewelry store. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------- 1930 US census, Coudersport Borough, Ward 2, Potter County, Pennsylvania, ED #6 , dwelling # 312, family #314, enumerated April 21, 1930, sheet # 12-B, image 23-of-53. address: 403 South Main Street John McConeghy, head, age 73, born in Delaware, father born in Ireland - North, mother born in Ireland, occ: Engineer - steam Rail Road, owned his house - value $5000, first married at age 25, not a veteran, did not own a radio set Kate McConeghy, wife, age 70, born in NY, parents born in Germany - Bav., first married at age 22, occ: none J. Paul McConeghy, son, age 46, single, born in PA, father born in DE, mother born in NY, occ: Jeweler - Own Store, not a veteran -------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------- Note: John and Kate's ages are way off in the 1930 census. She should have been 75 in April 1930 John should have been 77 in 1930 (but the census handwriting quite clearly gives 73 and 70 for their ages) John's age had been consistent in all previous censuses. Paul's ages are quite consistently correct so perhaps he was the one supplying the ages and didn't have a clear idea of when his parents were born ?? Also note that it says that John was age 25 when first married, but in the 1880 census he is 27 and was still single and living at home with his widowed mother and his siblings.
