[Akron Beacon Journal (OH) - October 3, 1988 - Section: Death Notices - Page: D9] ============================================================================================== Her mother died when she was around 12 years old. I know that she was treated poorly by her stepmom and her father after her mother died. She went to Columbus and worked there and somehow ended up in Summit County. She worked as an inspector the Firestone rubber factory and that is where she met Harry Dye, her future husband, who was a battery maker at the same factory. =============================================================================================== At the time of their marriage, she was living at 2807 Taylor Ave, Kenmore, Ohio. =============================================================================================== According to the 1930 Census, they lived at 1157 Benton St, Barberton right around the corner from Harry's brother George and his family, who lived at 1190 Prospect Street. Harry and Hazel rented this place for $16 per month and did not own a radio set ( one of the census questions that year). They had been married for 2 years at this time. At some point, according to his children, they moved out of Barberton, where both girls were born, to a farm near Manchester near Nimsila Reservoir. When their oldest child, Bonnie, got married, the family was living at 3013 Kew Drive, Akron, Summit County, OH. This house is still standing and looks the same in the year 2005. After Harry's death in 1969, she continued to live in the Kew Drive house until she fell and broke her hip. After that, her daughter Dorothy convinced her to move into their farmhouse outside of Doylestown. They built a special apartment on the back of their house for her where she lived until she passed away in 1988. She was known to all her grandchildren as Mimi, because her first grandchild, Anne, couldn't pronounce Grandma, instead callling her Mimi. That name stuck and all her grandkids called her by that name. =============================================================================================== She is buried in Greenlawn Memorial Park, 2580 Romig Road, Akron, OH. She is buried next to Harry and his brother Clinton and wife Twila.
