According to 1880 census record of his son Wade Barton, he was b. in SC; family tradition said in Wales. 1st known land grant: 1787 on Warrior Cr/Enoree R of Laurens Dist, SC; 2nd grant on Drake's Cr, nr BC, Warren Co., KY '03.. Wife Elizabeth, b. 1755-1765 (c. 1760< poss SC?--d. date unknown, Lafayette Co., MO. Poss bur. Prairie Cem., Mayview, MO. Note at bottom of sheet says: Children took the widowed mother with them to Lafayette Co., Mo., in 1824; Wade and Berry moved to Henry Co., TN, and later to Graves Co., KY.
