Note: ed: Oklahoma (Before 1951 ) Published: October 10, 2007 09:15 am Roy Adams Funeral services for Roy Alfred Adams, 101, Pryor, are Friday, Oct. 12, 2 p.m., at United Pentecostal Church. Brother Rick Nance will officiate and burial will follow at Graham Memorial Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Stephens Memorial Chapel. Adams was born Oct. 30, 1905, in Crocker, Mo. He died Oct. 9, at his residence. He married Bertha Adams on July 18, 1927, in Wewoka. He worked in the oil fields until moving to the Pryor area in the 1940s. After moving to Pryor, he opened and operated Adams Barber Shop for 35 years, retiring in 1980. During that time, they provided a home to more than 200 foster children. He was recognized by many organizations for his volunteer service. In 1986, he received a certificate of Appreciation from the Department of Human Services of Oklahoma for his volunteer services. In 1987, he received the Service to Mankind Award from the Sertoma Club. He and Bertha set a record in the Guinness Book of World Records for the “Longest married couple in the world.” He was a member of the United Pentecostal Church and the Centenarian Club of Oklahoma. He is survived by his wife, Bertha, of the home; three sons, J.C. Adams, Garland, Texas, Pokey Adams and wife, Claudia, Pryor and Lee Ray Adams and wife, Wauhilla, Locust Grove; two daughters, Helen Weaver and Wanda Fry and husband, Odis, all of Pryor; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 25 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Quincy and Lucy (DeVore) Adams; five brothers; two sisters; one grandson and one granddaughter.
