Note: ev. John O. Luck and Eliza Ann (King) Luck. In the 1860 census of Columbia County Arkansas, he is listed as age 7, with a sister Anne Lucinda as age 1, Born in Georgia. This would mean his parents Brought him to Ark. at about age six. Two older Brothers and Two older sisters, plus one younger brother and sister made the trip with the family. Their post office is Ouachita Seminary. The next we know of John James Luck was his Marriage to Sarah Llewellyn Newcomb, December 9, 1877.Sarah Llewellyn died 2 years 11 months after the marriage leaving him with his son Bennie (Benjamin Dane Luck). Evidently Sarah Jane Thominson Newcomb, mother of Sarah Llewllyn came to live with John James and his son. After her death in 1895, John James married his second wife, Grace Fannie Higgins, and had 3 children. Following Grace Fannie's death, John James married her sister Mollie Higgins, who raised the three children. We know John James was a Baptist and was quite a Bible scholar. He was a Democrat, Mason, and first a farmer, banker, postmaster then first Mayor of McNeil, Arkansas in Columbia County. The father of Polly Luck, Bryant Harper, knew John James and described him as a very large man and a fine man. Sara died 2 years 11 months after the marriage, leaving John James with son Benjamin Dane Luck evidently Sarah Jane Thomison Newcomb, mother of Sara came to Live with John James and Son After her death in 1895, John James Luck Married his second wife, Grace Fannie Higgins and they had Three children. Following Grace Fannie's death, John James Married her sister Mollie who raised the children. Found variation of name spelling to be Newcomb and Newcome. Birth: Nov. 18, 1852 Fairburn Fulton County Georgia, USA Death: Aug. 27, 1931 Columbia County Arkansas, USA "John J. Luck, merchant and postmaster, McNeil, Ark. This prominent business man is a native of Georgia, born November 18, 1852, and was reared in this county, recieving his education in the common schools. He remained under the parental roof until twenty-five years of age, and in 1877 was wedded to Miss Llewellyn Newcome, who was born in this county in 1858, and who was the daughter of Clayton G. and Sarah Jane (Thomison) Newcome. Mrs. Luck died in 1880, and left one child, a son named Bennie D. L. who is now ten years of age. Our subject began merchandising in 1883, where he is now located. He was appointed postmaster the same year, and has the office in his store, besides which he held the office of mayor of McNeil one year and filled the position in a satisfactory manner. Previous to 1883 Mr. Luck was engaged in tilling the soil. He is a popular man and an influential citizen. In politics he affiliates with the Democratic party. He and wife are members of the Baptist Church. Socially Mr. Luck is a member of the Masonic lodge, having joined that organization in 1884, when he became a member of McNeil Lodge No. 440. He is now master of his lodge. He is the son of John O. and Eliza Ann (King) Luck, natives of Georgia and Tennessee, and born in 1818 and 1819, respectively. The father was reared and married in his native State, and emigrated to Columbia County, Ark., in 1859. He was a farmer and Baptist preacher. He died in this county in 1883 and his widow in 1887. She was also a member of the Baptist Church. THeir family consisted of eleven children, of whom John J. is seventh in order of birth. The paternal grandfather, George Luck, died in Georgia at the age of about seventy five years."
