He met and married Betty Marie Luck December 22, 1941 in Coolidge, Arizona. They moved to Kermit in 1958 where Ed was a lease operator for Mobil Oil, having retired after 35 years of service in 1995. Mr. Akins is survived by his wife, Betty Akins of Kermit and his sister, Jean Orsak of Alamogordo, New Mexico. He is survived by seven children. His daughters are Patsy Gonzales of Bay City, Texas, Barbara Nichols of Odessa, Deborah Johnson of Mobile, Alabama and Candy Mitchell of Kermit. His sons are Robert Akins of San Antonio, Texas, Eddie Akins of Katy, Texas, and Jimmy Akins of Bandera, Texas. His survivors also include fifteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Memorial services were held privately. Arrangements were entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.
