a. Note:   , and is the son of Christian and Mary Hoffstetter. In 1854 he settled permanently in Ann Arbor, and for a short time was employed as clerk in one of the larger mercantile houses in that city. In 1872 he established his present business and through honorable dealings has succeeded in building up a large and profitable trade. He married Gertrude Klise. Mrs. Hoffstetter died, and he married Catherine Burkhart, his present wife. Mr. H is a member of the A.O.U.W., also of the Volunteer Fire Company of Ann Arbor.
