Note: A handwritten note by Clara Hoffstetter Richardson in the possesion of Elby Davis: Matilda Kennedy Warren was the daughter of David Kennedy and his wife Anne Neely - her gravestone says - a native of Ireland - she is buried in the Warren lot - he is not - he is buried in the Kennedy lot - He was a brick maker - her family disapproved of him and they ran away - were married (I think) and came to America. One time when I was a young girl my mother had a communication with a lawyer in Ireland who said the Neely castle on the coast of Northern Ireland was left to my mother or up for grabs I guess - I think it is in Ulster - Anyway - we are Orangmen!! Mother decided it was probably loaded with back taxes or a pile of IOU's and said forget it! - Now after David & Anne came to the U.S. - somehow or other they landed in Pittsburgh - And he made brick for much of the early building in Pittsburgh including the first Horne's store. Then they came to Erie and built the block of houses at either 4th or 5th and French - I think their children must have been fairly well grown as one of them married a Hubley from Pittsburgh - Jeanette married Mr. Laird who was the first mayor of Erie - there was another daughter - Lydia has the portrait but when mother finally located it in some long lost relatives attic - it was beyond hope - Lyd had it checked to make sure and was told it would be prohibitive to do.
