DUAL CENSUS ENUMERATIONS: Information recently found (2008) at the "teralmcphail" family tree site, notes that George Marion & Emily Bonner Gamble built their first home near Goodwater, AL in 1851. They named the homeplace "Gamble Heights" and lived there until about 1868. Their seven children were born there. In 1868, the family moved to LaFayette, Alabama where they lived until 1893. During this time, "Gamble Heights" was maintained as a furnished Summer home. This may account for the dual census enumerations in 1880.

Based on information from the "teralmcphail" family tree site, the Gamble Height's property was purchased at some point by Cyrus Edson and Mary Emma McPhail Newman. After their deaths, land was donated to Auburn University. Mary Emma McPhail was the daughter of Zadie Octavia Gamble and Thomas Malcomb McPhail, Sr.
