worked in a warehouse in the docks for about 6 months straight out of school 8am til 6pm, heavy work unloading ships and loading onto horse and carts
left school in 1938
left and worked in a shop in bridge street called Hamiltons
did not communicate much with father cecil
cecil was a disciplinarian
was working in the shop when war broke out
left shop and moved to another one for a month because of better pay - left didnt like it
went to the bristol aircraft company at patchway and got an apprenticeship at aero engine engineering
went to night school and work in factory on the benches
hated factory life - too enclosed. preferred outdoors
