Note: 'Edmund, born 1732, died 1798, married Elizabeth Reading in 1752. She was the daughter of the famous silk printers. Edmund obtained the secret from them and started the Littler works at Waltham Abbey. The business was the site occupied by the Government Powder Mills; the old 11th century church at Waltham. In fact, the restoration of the Abbey chapel contains the family registers with upwards of 200 entries in connection with the family. Most of the family have left, but Edmund Littler (1790-1860) had an eldest child (Helen) who married T. Chapman. A son of theirs (Arthur) is tenant of the Abbey farm. This Abbey Farm has been in the occupancy of the Chapman family for generations. Arthur Chapman and his family have quite a lot of knowledge of the Littler family and know the whereabouts of most of the Waltham remnants. There is part of a bridge on their farm in good repair, known as Harold's Bridge, and erected before the advent of William the Conqueror. Harold was killed on October 14th 1066 at the Battle of Hastings, and was buried at the Abbey.' Source: Notes of C.A. Littler (1910)
