May 5, 1880 Sir: I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt from your Office ofapplication for pension No. Mex War, and to return it herewith, with such information as is furnished by the files in this Office. It appears from the Rolls on file in this Office that Nathan Osborn was enrolled on the 15th day of May 1848, at Greenupsburg Ky by Capt Metcalf, in Colonel Thompson's 3rd Regiment of Kentucky Infantry Voluteers, to serve during the War mith Mexico and mustered into service as a private (Recruit) on the 26th day of May 1848, at Newport Bks Ky by Lt McTwan in Col Thompson's 3rd Regiment of Kentucky Infantry Volunteers, to serve during the War with Mexico. This man was mustered out with detachment June 20, 1848. This name is not taken up on any roll of any Company of that Regiment or of the 4th Regiment Kentucky Volenteers (Mexican War). The record of this office do not furnish any evidence of chronic diarrhoea June 1848, as claimed. CLAMENT"S AFFIDAVIT Ty. of Dakota Co. of Armstrong Comes now Nathan Osborn ______________1880 Cailmant for Original Pension No Old War, who being duly sworn, on his solemn oath depose as follows: I am the Claiment above named: for two years prior to my enlistment in the U. S. service my place of residence were as follows Greenup Co. state of Ky. My occupation during said time was farming. My occuoation since discharge has beem farming' Since my disharge to the present time I have resided at the following place or places in Washington Co. Iowa & in Armstrong Co. Ty. The following is a full and complete history of my disability and its incurrence, from the time it first appeared to the present: I was a volunteer soldier in the U.S. service 1848 during the war with Mexico on my return from New Orleans to New Port Barraks to be discharged I contacted Chronic Diarhria I was treated in said barravks for the same & was discharged at said Barracks & went home sick with said disease. MEXICAN WAR PENSION- Act of January 29, A.D. 1887 Declaration of Survivor for Pension State of Iowa, County of Hamilton, SS on this day of August, A.D. one thousand Nine hundred and Eight personally appeared Nathan Osborn, as resident of Webster City in the County of Hamilton in the State of Iowa, who, being by me duly sworn according to law, desposes and says: I am the identical Nathan Osborn, who served under the name of Nathan Osborn as a private in the detachment of recruits for the 3rd regiment of Kentucky Vols., in the War with Mexico; that I enlisted at Greensburg Greenup Co. Kentucky on or about the 1st day of April, A.D. 1848, for the term of during the war, and was honorably discharged at Newport Barracks Kentucky, on the 20th day of June A.D. 1848. That being duly enlisted as aforesaid, I actually served sixty days with the Army or Navy of the United States in Mexico, or on the coast or frontier thereof, or en route thereto, in the war with that Nation which service was as follows: I enlisted as stated under Captain Metcalf was taken with other recruits to Newport Barracks Kentucky drilled for a time mustered into service and moved to New Orleans LA. Was kept there till the close of the war. Then returned to Newport Barracks and mustered out. That I am 80 years of age having been born at Greenup Co. Kentucky on the 25th day of January 1828 That I am disabled by reason of infirmitees of old age. That the maiden name of my wife was Elizabeth Angeline Olds, to whom I was married at Louisa Co. in the State of Iowa on the 4th day of March 1852: that my wife is now dead, having died on the 26th day of January A.D. 1903 at Hammilton Co. in the State of Iowa: that I have since remarried, that the name of my present wife is Jennie M. Osborn ( born Dyke). That since my disharge from said service I have resided as follows, to wit: Washington Co, Iowa, about 1880 went to Hutchison Co. SD since 1894 Hamilton Co.
