  Police Record:-
 He joined the police force on 30th June 1884 aged 24, Warrant No: 69566, and his first posting was to 'S' division (Hampstead). On the 9th of July 1887 he advanced to 2nd Class Constable, and later that year was posted to 'A' Division (Whitehall). On the 13th of November 1905 he died of Influenza and Pneumonia. His posting at that time was 'K' Division (Bow), Division No: K638.

  Maud Sowersby, his daughter, said he had died while saving somebody from a canal while on duty. With the Police Record as above, it may be he did save someone and then later contracted Influenza and Pneumonia and then died as a result of saving someone.
