 He joined the Metropolitan Police aged 25 on 25th November 1889 and was posted to Woolwich as PC 88. His Warrant No: was 74972. He went to G Division on 13th September 1892. He was permitted to resign on 19th July 1893 from the Police force after he had assaulted a woman, then charged her falsely with being drunk and disorderly, and using insulting and threatening behavior to his commanding officer. At this time he was PC 449 on 'G' Division which covered the Finsbury area.
