Note: N243 1917- June 5 - Draft Registration WW I-single and working as a newspaper reporter for the L.A. Herald 1920 - Census Richard S Edwards (24) is living in Los Angeles, CA and working as a reporter for a newspaper. He is incorrectly reported as son to a family named Ball, but appears to be living alone. His birth state is Ohio, father born in IL, mother in WV, so I feel confident this is our Richard S Edwards. 1930-Census - Richard S Edwards (34), Elizabeth T Edwards (38), Thomas H Pike (19), William M (15) are living in Los Angelos, CA; Richard is working as an editor for a newpaper; Richard was 32 at the time of his first marriage, Elizabeth was 19. Elizabeth and Thomas were born in CA. Note: the 1930 census record has an entry at the bottom for “Thomas M (15) with an arrow pointing to the Richard S Edwards family. I believe this was meant to be William M who would have been 15 in 1930. Thomas H would have been 19-20. So there were likely 2 stepsons for Richard S Edwards. _______ Richard Safford Edwards Entered the U. S. Army as Private in Infantry Arm; assigned to and served with 1 16th Engineers and 1st Engineers, 1st Division, A. E. F.; took part in engagements at Montdidier-Noyon (April-July 3, 1918, including Cantigny attack) ; in Aisne- Marne Offensive (July 18-241(1, 1918); St. Mihiel Offensive; Meuse-Argonne Offensive (Oct. 1-12th, 1918) ; the Second Meuse-Argonne Offensive (November 5th, nth, 1918); and later with the Army of Occupation.
