Notes
a. Note:   N513 The following is included as a possible clue to the parentage of Maria Clement. Both a Purcell and a Clement are mentioned in the land transaction. The John Clement in Switzerland County was not Maria’s father. His will mentions all his children by name and there was no Maria.

Pike, the western township of Ohio County, lies between Laughery Creek on the north, and Switzerland County on the south, and between Cass and Union Townships on the east, and Ripley and Switzerland Counties on the west.

Alt birth date: 10 Dec 1802. This is the date from the Quebec church record (see multimedia for Marie Clement). It is in french and appears to say the father was Thomas Clement. As we have nothing to confirm that this record is for our Marie Clement, or that her father was John, or Thomas, we are including the birth/baptism record in the multimedia section for future research.
1881 - Canadian census - Thomas Clement (84) , Marie Paquet (82) and Olivine Clement (39) are living in St-Cuthbert, Berthier, Quebec, Canada. Thomas's occupation is "Rentiere, he is French Catholic.
Given his age and the year, 1881, this might be a brother of Marie, named for a father, Thomas, that appears in the church baptism recored for Marie Clement. But it could be no relation to Maria at all.
Still no evidence this is our Clement family.
Death date given as 1863 in bio of Kenneth Ross.

  Dear List,
Maria Clement is my ggg grandmother. She was born December 20, 1802 probably
in Kentucky.. She m. Aaron Purcell abt. 1820 in Indiana.
Aaron Purcell is the son of Benjamin Purcell who migrated from Virginia to
Nelson County Kentucky to Dearborn County Indiana.
While I have no documentation whatsoever for Maria Clement, I think her father
might be a John Clement who was in the 1800 Nelson County, Kentucky census and
 later in Dearborn County, Indiana.
Based on common names and migration patterns, I suspect that this John Clement
may be a descendent of William Clement and Ann Taylor. Didn't some of their
grand children migrate to Kentucky and then to Southern Indiana?
If anyone can help me make this connection (or disprove it), it would be much
 appreciated.

1836 - The November 1836 term of the Probate Court granted to Maria Purcell, guardian of the minor heirs of Aaron Purcell, deceased, leave to sell the above parcel of land for no less than the appraised value of $320.
1837 - Indiana Compiled Marriages 1802-1850 shows a marriage for Maria Louisa Purcell and Moses C Purcell on 31 Jul 1837 in Vermillion county, Indiana. This may not be our Maria, and needs to be investigated further. The handwritten record of the marriage liscence gives the name “Mariah Louisa Purcell”. A tree online gives 1817 as the birth date of this woman, so it is likely not our Maria.
1840 Census - Mariah Purcell is living in Pike Co. with 1 male between 15 and 20, One male between 20 and 30, 2 females between 5 and 10, 2 females between 10 and 15, and 1 between 30 and 40. Also in Pike Co., ILL in 1840 are David Purcell, Joel Purcell, John Purcell, Samuel Purcell, and Moses Purcell.
1850 Census - Maria Percell (47), born in Canada, is living in Pike Co., Illinois with Malen (26), Matilda (21), William (1), Duwain (1/12), and Aubrilla (18). Malen is probably Maria’s son Mahlon, Matilda his wife and the young children theirs, Malen is a farmer. Malen and Aubrilla were born in Indiana, the other Illinois.
1860 Census - Maria Percell (58), born in “Canady”, is living with C B Brewster (48), daughter Melvina (25) in Pleasant Vale Twp, Pike Co., IL. Also in the home is Enis Purcell, not Maria’s son, but likely a nephew, as there were several Purcell families in Pike County at this time.
