It appears Charles had been married and divorced before his marriage to Lois. 1902 - Hartford CT City Directory lists Charles W Bartholomew at Hartford Provision Co, b. 79 Sigourney. (this may or may not be our CWB) 1910 Census - Charles Bartholomew (29) born 1981 in CT, living in Barry, Pike, IL, divorced, living in a boarding house, working in a poultry house. 1912 - The Quincy Daily Whig, Wednesday, July 17, 1912; pg 8 Miss Lois West and Charles Bartholomew of Barry will be married at the bride’s home at Pine Lawn on next Wednesday afternoon at 4 o’clock. Only the immediate relatives and friends are invited to be present on account of the poor health of the grandmother, Mrs. M. K. Ross. (Sept 1918) 1920 - Census lists Charles W Bartholomew (38), Lois W Bartholomew (33) and Margret A (2 6/12) living in Barry, Pike, IL. 1923 - Cook County IL marriage index - Charles W Bartholomew and Dorothy L Vogelsang married 25 AUg 1923. 1930 Census - Lois Bartholomew (39), head of household, Margaret Aloise Bartholomew (12) are living in Barry, Pike, IL. Lois is divorced, owns her home valued at $3,500, and doesn’t live on a farm. She was 23 when she married. Lois is a music teacher. The 1930 census indicates that Charles was not a veteran so did not serve in WWI. The 1930 census lists a Charles Bartholomew, dealer in poultry, in Barry, Pike Co. IL, married to Dorothy and her son, Thomas Vogelsong, identified as the stepson of Charles. 1938 - Chicago Daily Tribune 23 Aug Wedding The wedding of Miss Margaret Aloise Bartholomew, daughter of Mrs. Lois Bartholomew of Barry, Ill., to Severin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Knute Severin of Chicago took place on Sunday in the Hows Memorial chapel at Northwestern university. A reception followed at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Severin. Miss Bartholomew attended Lindenwood college and Northwestern university. Mr. Severin was graduated from Northwestern university. Mr. Severin and his bride are in Yellowstone National park on their honeymoon and upon their return the will live in Chicago. 1940 Census - Lois Bartholomew (54), divorced, living in Barry, Pike, Illinois, owns the home (460 McDonough St) valued at $3000; completed 2nd year of high school. Living with her is her sister, Helen West (51), Helen's son, Courtney West (16). Lois is not working, has "other income". Helen worked 24 weeks as an apple sorter at an apple packing business and made $192. There is a Social Security life claim for Lois Bartholomew in 1966. The birth date in this claim is 23 Mar 1886, the same as for our Lois.
