  Freda,

 Good to hear from you.

Thanks for the photos of the Brewster/Ross headstones.

Did I tell you that I went to New Canton to see the graveyard about ten years ago. I was with my wife and daughter on a drive from Chicago to Hannibal Mo. by way of Springfield. New Canton is across the river from Hannibal.

While we located Brewster Hollow (the road next to the property where the graveyard is located) I couldn't figure out how to get to the graveyard without trespassing through somebody's yard. And my wife didn't want to wait around while I tried to find somebody to ask permission. So we moved on to spend a few days with Huck & Tom and their friends.

I did find a bio & engraving of Charles Tryon in a History of Pike County located in the State Library in Springfield. I think I sent a copy to you previously. If not, let me know.

About Frank Doherty. I'm not sure when Frances married him but it was as far back as I can remember (late 40's). Frances and Frank entertained me regularly starting in 1962 when I first went to NYC up until when they retired about 10 years later.

Frank worked for a Wall Street firm selling bonds to institutional investors. I have the name of a least one of the companies somewhere and would recognize the name if I heard it. It's "on the tip of my tongue."

He was Canadian - I think from Quebec because we would discuss the political situation between the French and English. He thought that the French should be satisfied with the English running everything.

He must have had some kind of successful business career in Canada because he was a member of the Canadian Club which had very nice facilities in the Waldorf. I had a number of lunches there as their guest.

I don't think Frank had children of his own, but he did have nieces and/or nephews in Canada who were his beneficiaries when he died a couple of years before Frances who died in 1977.

Frances and Frank retired about 1971 (+ — a year or two) and went on a cruise to Europe. They then moved to Sun City AZ where Frank died within a few years. Frances then moved to LaJolla where our cousin Joan Brewster arranged for an assisted living residence for her.

Frances came East every summer during her last years to see a few friends who were still around and to travel to New Hampshire to visit Gwen. Frances supported Gwen and her husband during their last years and would go to much effort to visit them. I drove her one year and met Gwen who was an invalid confined to her bed at the time.

Both Frances and Gwen were part of my life from the very beginning as they would send our family books, subscriptions to National Geographic and other magazines, and at Christmastime, a fruit cake from Frances.

Frances died during the summer of 1977 in her hotel room at the Sheraton Russell on Park Avenue South at about 38th Street. I spoke to her on the telephone the evening before and she said that here head was dizzy but she was resting on a soft pillow. The next day, the housekeeping staff discovered her. The hotel must have called Joan Brewster who called me. I went to the hotel room to collect her belongings and I remember flushing a great amount of medications down the toilet.

Joan arranged for the body to be cremated and ashes shipped back to California where (I think) she scattered them in the Pacific. I would have placed them next to her parents in Minneapolis with some kind of marker.

When I sent her belongings to California, apparently there was some missing jewelry. Some folks in Canada (Frank's relatives) had been expecting to inherit this jewelry and were quite upset when it didn't materialize. So the names of these relatives may be in Frances' will or the probate records.

Incidentally, I still intend to get over to the Connecticut Historical Society to photograph the pages of Icabod Brewster's account book. There are some names we will recognize among the accounts. It also provides a detailed look at running a tavern in the middle of the 18th century in Lebanon Ct, which was on a main road between Boston and New York.

Thanks again for thinking of me when you come across new discoveries about our family. I hope that I live long enough to create some kind of digital record or it all to pass on to future generations.

 Jon Harden
