1875 Wisconsin State Census - John C Rose in Eau Claire, WI, 2 white males, 5 white females.
The 2 males were likely John Carmichael Rose, and his son from his first marriage, Willard. The females were Rebecca (Johnson) Rose, Ellen (Nellie), his daughter from the first marriage, Anna (b. 1867), Adele (b. 1869), and Katie May (b. 1871). So it seems Rebecca's mother, Harriet Johnson, was not in the home as of 1875.
1880 Census - Rebecca W. Rose (35), Nellie (20), Anna (13), Della (11), and Katie (9) are living on Gibson Street in Eau Claire, Eau Claire, Wisonsin. No others are in the home. Rebecca is a dressmaker. Nellie is a printer. Rebecca was born in OH, both her parents in PA.
Note: Rebecca’s mother doesn’t appear in the home in the above 1880 census record. It is not known where she, Harriet, was at that time. She gave a statement in the divorce proceedings in 1882 so she must have been around during this time, but doesn’t appear in census records.
Note 2: We learned from Harriet’s obituary that Harriet was living with her adopted daughter, Nettie McCauley from about 1873 until her death, in 1886,in Attica, Kansas, where she is buried.

Note: This marriage has never been mentioned in the family. Subsequent public records, census and death records, show Rebecca using the last name “Rose”. But there is no doubt that the above marriage record is for our Rebecca. See below for possible leads for James R Branch. There was a dentist named James R Branch in the area, who appears subsequently to 1884 in records, reporting himself to be a widow, but with no family. It seems to have been common to report oneself as widowed if one was divorced.
Perhaps the marriage record was just for the license and the marriage never took place; or the marriage took place and they divorced or annulled the marriage, or merely separated.
St. Croix County is part of the Minneapolis–St. Paul Metropolitan Statistical Area
And Dunn County is where Rebecca and John C Rose married. James R Branch lived in Dunn County, WI.

1895 - Minnesota Territorial and State Census for Ramsey Co, St. Paul Ward 11 - Wm C McCray (30), Adell (26), Alice R. (6), Florence (4), Josephine (2), Rebecca W Rose (49), Anna Boardman (28), Myrtice Boardman (5), all living at 466 Wheeler ave, Ramsey County, Part 6, St. Paul, Minnesota. William C McCray was a clerk in a drug store. No others reported employment. Rebecca W Rose was born in Ohio. Myrtice was born in Oregon. Alice and Florence were born in MInnesota. William, Adelle, and Anna were born in Wisconsin.

NURSES HAVE A SOCIETY
One is Formed by Local Members of the Profession
The nurses of the city formed an organization at Assembly hall yesterday afternoon, with G. H. WInkler as president and Miss Grace Holmes secretary. There are about 200 trained female nurses in St. Paul, and about five men, all of whom are eligible to membership. The meeting was called to order by the president, who explained brief the intention of the meeting and introduced Mr. Thomas, who spoke of the benefit of the organization in the abstract, and the advantages of being able to talk over the detail s of the professional life, the beneficiary societies, protective organizations, amateur nurses, and speaking highly of co-operation in any branch of work. Mr. Winkler then stated that any nurse who has graduated or who can show satisfactory recommendations is eligible for membership. He also read a constitution which had been drawn up, and it was received with favor. The following was signed: "We the undersigned agree to become members of the Northwestern Nurses' Protective association, according to the rules and regulations hereafter constituted by us. S. Anna Larson, E. A. Ruble, Mrs. R. W. Rose, Mrs Laura Gloeser, Jane H. Pollock, Bessie Gallagher, Mrs. Rose Donaldson, K. Griffith, C. Herbst, Mrs. E. H Brockman, Grace Holems, G. H. Winkler, Mrs. W. T. Jordan." The next meeting will be held at Assembly bass Wednesday at 3 p.m.
1900 Census- Rebecca is living with Adele and William McCray at 488 Collins St in St. Paul Minnesota and working as a “professional nurse”. Father’s birthplace listed as Virginia, Mother’s Pennsylvania.
1905 Minnesota, Territorial and State Census - St Paul Ward 7
Wm C Mcray(40), Adele McCray(36), Alice McCray(16), Florence McCray(14), and Rebecca Rose(60) are living on Portland ave in St Paul. William is a clerk. Rebecca Rose is not employed, her father is reported to have been born in PA.

1920 Census - William McCray (55), Adele R McCray (50), Florence McCray (30) and Rebecca Rose (74) are living in Minneapolis Ward 2, Hennepin, Minnesota. Florence was pregnant at this time and just visiting her parents. Rebecca was Adele's mother.
1929 - Rebecca was living at 878 Caledonia Ave., Cleveland, OH at the time of her death. She was cremated. She died at age 84 of lobar pneumonia and had arteriosclerosis. Her granddaughter, Alice McCray Merriell, reported the death. Burial - Clev Crematory - 4-1-1929. (Death certificate said she was embalmed)

1870 Census - Menomonie, Dunn, Wisconsin - Isaac Branch (54), Elizabeth Branch (53), James (21), William (19), Frank 13). Isaac is a clergyman, Baptist; James is a dentist. Isaac was b. in Vermont, Elizabeth b. Penn, James in Illinois.
1880 Census - J. B (orR) Branch (55), Mary (50), James (30) living in Eau Galle, Dunn, Wisonsin; J B is a dentist and farmer, James a dentist. J. B was b. Maine, James, in IL. (Note: The “J” could be an “I”, and likely is. Mary may be a second wife, or an alternate name for Elizabeth.

1905 - Wisconsin State Census - Jas R Branch (62), widowed, living in Eau Galle, Dunn, WI; b. Illinois; Living with him are Frank Branch (47), Frank's wife, Mary M. (37) and their son Paul L (7); both James and Frank have no occupation listed, and both have been unemployed 12 months. No relationship between James and Frank is recorded. I think the ages are off in this record. James’ and Frank’s parents born in VT.
1910 Census for Menomonie Ward 4, Dunn, Wisconsin, lists the name J. R Branch, but no other information, all other fields are blank.
