  1880-Living with parents in Prescott, working as dressmaker? (single, age 23)
  1888 - Sept 8; St. Paul Daily Globe: “Mrs. J. W. Howe of St. Hilliar, Dak. is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carlos McCray.”
  1900 Census - ( 4 June) Jos W(44) and Clara(43) are living in Prescott WI with Lucinda Howes, (88), Joseph’s mother. Joseph is a hardware salesman.
  1900 Census - Clara(42) and Joseph (43) are living in Duluth Ward 4, Saint Louis, MN. They have been married 18 years. Clara had no children. Joseph is in manufacturing and lives in a mortgaged house, not a farm.
  1905 Wisconsin State Census - Joseph W Howe (49), Clara (48), and Alice McCray (35) are living in Prescott, Pierce, WI. Joseph is a farmer, Alice a school teacher.
  1910 Census - Joseph (54) and Clara (53) are living in Prescott, Pierce Co., WI. Joseph is a farmer.
  1920 Census - Joseph (64) and Clara (62) are living in Prescott, Pierce Co., WI. Lucile Howes (17), their grandniece, is also in the home. Joseph is a farmer.
  1930 Census - Clara Howe (72) widowed, living in Prescott, Pierce, WI. Birth year given as 1858.
  1940 Census - Clara M Howes (83) and Ellen McCray (79) are living together in Prescott, Pierce, WI. Ellen is a housemaid; both completed 4 years of college. They were in the same house (rented) in 1935. Clara is “unable to work”

  “The Independent Order of Good Templars, Lodge No. 319, was organized September 25th,
 1876, with eighteen charter members. The first officers were: J. S. White, W. C. T.;
 Miss J. D. Newell, W. V. T.; George N. Ross, W. C.; Clara McCray, W. S. E. C.; Dr. E. S. Akers,
 W. F. S.; Ada Covell, W. T. R.; Frank A. Ross, W. M.; Lottie Newell, W. D. M.; Ida Rubey,
 W. I. G.; J. W. Howes, W. O. G.; Gertie Ives, W. R. H. S.; Hattie V. Newell, W. H. S.; A.
 Gray, P. W. C. T. This lodge has been in a prosperous condition since its organization.
 They have at this time over one hundred members.”
