Junius Edwards, with understanding and the technical insight born of a career in research and invention, tells the story of this minister's boy (Charles Martin Hall) whose ambition was to become a rich inventor. Mr. Edwards, after graduation from the University of Minnesota, spent six years in chemical research at the National Bureau of Standards. In the year 1919 he joined the research staff of Aluminum Company of America where, for many years, he played a part in the scientific and technical developments which have helped Alcoa build the modern aluminum industry in America. Numerous technical papers, books and patents bear his name. Along the years, he has acquired the talent of making metallurgy palatable to the casual reader. His intimate knowledge of aluminum has enabled him to understand the problems Hall faced and conqured in bringing aluminum to America. - from the dust jacket of "The Immortal Woodshed"
