  Obituary:
  New York Times - Dec 12, 1949
Verona, N. J., Dec. 11 - Arthur J. Edwards, a retired broker and a former economist for J. P. Morgan Co., died at his home here last night, after an illness of several years. His age was 72.
Born in Decatur, Ill, he was graduated from Stanford University in 1900 and four years later joined the firm of Wells Dickey Company in Minneapolis, an important buyer of Municipal bonds in the Middle West.
He came East in 1924 as a statistician and economic adviser for the Morgan firm and in 1928 became head of the statistical department for the brokerage firm of Smith, Grahm & Rockwell at 50 Broadway. He retired ten years ago.
As a member of the Council for Social Action of the Congregational Church, he often appeared at legislative hearings.
(from the New York Times, 12 Dec, 1949) (Note: Arthur was born in Galesburg, IL, not Decatur)
  _____________
Arthur J Edwards was active in church affairs all his life. As a young man with the Universalist Church and later with the Congregationalists.
The New York Times archives has a number of articles mentioning Arthur J Edwards in legislative efforts focused on civil rights. One had to do with the way black people were treated in the agricultural fields of NJ. I’m not certain this Arthur J Edwards is our man, as I’ve seen mention of another with the same name in newspaper articles that identify that Arthur J Edwards as a social worker.
