Buck> Gladys I. Buck (nee Smith), 87, a longtime resident of Madison, died Saturday, March 27, in the Bruening Health Care Center of Judson Park in Cleveland, Ohio, of complications from a stroke she suffered in January 2001. Mrs. Buck was born to Florence G. and Roy A. Smith in Tomah. She spent her childhood in Tomah, graduating from Tomah High School with a trophy in swimming. She settled in Madison with her husband, John H. Buck, to raise a family. She was active in the Episcopal church, serving on many guilds. While on Altar Guild, she cared for the altar and sewed meticulous designs for altar cloths and vestments. She enjoyed her gardens and took on huge tasks caring for the grounds wherever they lived. Mrs. Buck instilled in her three children her own love of nature, music and dancing. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mrs. Buck is survived by her sister, Jane L. (Leigh) Hilliker; three children, John Jr. (Nancy), Patricia (Richard) Gonzales and Sandra Heneri. She is also survived by three grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren. Interment will be in the arboretum of St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church in Madison on Monday, June 24, at 11 a.m. Mrs. Buck's brother, Charles H. (Viola) Smith, passed away on May 28, therefore there will be a double memorial service on Tuesday, June 22, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Tomah. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Dunstan's Church in Madison for the care of their arboretum or to St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Tomah. |
